Alright so made it down to the shop yesterday on my day off to map out some different setups and now we're back and forth between two different setups completely. One setup will require the custom fabbed manifolds like previously stated, and another setup we were considering is a twin rear mounted turbo setup. less fabrication and probably not as efficient, but it will be a bit easier to build however more parts expensive than the labor expenses that would be done at the shop. hmm.

i do however order my KW Variant 2 coilovers tomorrow or thursday and i will be ordering some 20" staggered wheels as well. i am back and forth between a few sets right now so we'll see. what do you guys think of a black wheel with red lips and then having the fins on the side of the car matching the red lip of the wheel? agressive much?

Jesus, my taxes, tags, etc. were only $1,000 extra. I think your dealership screwed you.

cool, I would really like to see you build a real turbo manifold for this project. I think in the long run it would be the wise decision.

third choice is like this.

custom exhaust manifolds for single t25 turbo front located. then in the rear setting up a gt35r turbo setup. having the car tuned with two different boost controllers, two engine management setups, etc. this would basically be this:

t25 boost 0-7k rpm
gt35r boost 4-7k rpm

this would of course be mediocre low end power and then hitting 4k and basically crapping yourself in top end power, which will be needed to hold corners without bogging and so on and so forth. this was my goal for an FD RX7 i was going to build, but i never bought the car because i built the 240sx instead. so maybe it will be a good time to start that project on my car.

custom manifolds, ridiculous high end power, smokey *** tires. yeah, it'll do.

I don't know what any of this stuff means, but it sure sounds good.

its like this.

at a running race there are two different types of runners.

runner A. he goes full sprint from the line and never lets up, but because he didn't save any energy his strength begins to die down slowly towards the finish line.

runner B. ah, this guy is conservative. he does a mediocre jog through half the race, and then just when he's falling back he goes full sprint to the finish line picking off opponent A. why? because opponent A was already tired and runner B was just beginning.

now, runner A = t25, runner B = gt35r.

put those together and you have the perfect power band.

don't over complicate things ... its a 3.2 with plenty of exhaust flow ... dump a GT35R in the rear since the original muffler location is a heavens send as far as places to put a remote turbo and leave it at that. you guys planning on running a seperate gravity fed and pump evacuated oiling system for it or plumb it directly from the main oil system and evacuate with a pump ?

if it turns out you need the turbo to spool a bit faster than it can back there (don't listen to stories about remote systems being laggy, they are spread by people that have never had one based on what they think its like) then you can always have the original exhaust manifolds (they are double walled) ceramic coated and heat wrap the exhaust tubing all the way to the turbo (since cermic coating will get sand blasted by track debree and eventually come off) and that should be good for a few hundred RPM increase in spool time ...

also, any plan for a water injection setup ? i am definately not skipping that step myself ... wondering if you are planning this as well. with no way to adjust the timing (dual spark plug system alternates between plugs as to which fires first making it not possible to hook greddy emanage into it ... otherwise the coil on plug system would be controllable) other than reprogramming the ECU (not worth the money since water injection will prevent detonation and mean extra response and power with the original timing) i am definately doing water injection as my solution for running decent power.

oh BTW.... i am trying to steer you away from the T25 for low end power due to the EGT temps it will generate ... can be pretty bad for reliability in the long run in the conditions it will run in.

This won't work unless the evac pump can generate high enough oil pressure to keep things lubed properly. The best bet would be to tap into the engines oiling system. Now I wonder where that might be?

it will work so long as the tank is right above it and gravity feed is straight down ... the bearings can survive on a suprising small amount of oil (as proven by the garret oil restrictor that is smaller than 1/16) ... however if the oil is not evacuated properly they will start pushing the oil into the housings.

i've done a mock up spinning the turbine with a rubber hose connected to a drill ... it has plenty of oil flow through the 4/16 line i used and will need only a small pump (no need for the huge differential pumps many use) to evac the oil.

now the important thing is that you are expecting the oil to lubricate in this case, not cool ... so water cooling or a oil cooler after the pump is needed still ... one or the other.

alternative: there is a oil pressure test port on the oil filter housing ... just have to figure out if it sends the oil there pre filtration or post and how much pressure is sees ... the less pressure the better cause there won't be need for a oil restrictor ... 4/16 line with less than 20 psi is ok ... anything above that and it starts to push past the seals (previous experience). a oil restrictor is very recommended at higher pressure levels and not all turbos have them built in.

here is a oil restrictor for Garret T series as they do not have built in restrictors ... opening is just under 1/16 ... a open 4/16 line, size of the opening on a typical Garret turbo oil feed, being gravity fed by a properly designed tank provides plenty of feed ... the real issues appears if it is not evacuated properly and positioning the tank right above the turbo ... otherwise use of one small pump to feed and one small pump to evacuate is in order (at least in a designing a separate oiling system from the engine).

Interesting, you can learn something new everyday! Thanks for the info!

Wow...I have no Idea what the hell is going on here...
I only 1/4 mile run and Cruise the streets.
I'll stick with my NX Express package for $600 bucks.
Way more simple than all that stuff you just said...
But good luck on your attempts to Turbo the Xfire.

Alright, long time no update?

So, put some more thoughts into the project, but first ordered some stuffsss.

1. KW Variant 2 Coilovers
2. MRR HR2 20x9.5" 20x8.5" Wheels

I got the wheels for $900 so I took the deal for now, if they don't fit right I will surely sell them in a minute. And as for the coilovers, I get those next week sometime, I just have to check fitment on them after I install and see how low we're talking here. If it's not low enough I'm going to talk to my rep at KW and have them send me some shorter springs to get it a bit lower.

On to the motor.

Took a bunch of components off the motor the other day at the shop to see what we were going to be dealing with a little bit better. We had two ideas and narrowed it down to this.

Single GT35R Turbo - Rear Mounted On Custom fabricated megan racing test pipe.
Custom fabbed downpipe to test pipe, no cats.
From the turbo will be about 3" of 3" diameter pipe to the new Y-Pipe we fabricate up running dual out the rear. Dual 3" tips on each side of the car (M3 Style). Then, 650cc fuel injectors (deutshcworks) will hopefully work, a Greddy E-Manage In Dash, And a direct piggyback into a Dell Inspiron Laptop for direct tuning of all aspects.

Sounds confusing, but hardest part of the setup is just going to be tuning. The build of the turbo setup will be pure and clean as hell. 8 psi stock internals aside from injectors, fuel pump, etc. Front mount greddy hybrid intercooler custom yashio factory pink anodized piping Dual SPAL 10" Fans mounted on a custom bracketed Koyo Aluminum Radiator.

Blue Prints are getting there!! So close to starting the build and I can not wait!

Project X is going to be project baller.

what does rear mounted mean.

p.s., sounds awesome. how much do you think the turbo stuff will cost, aside from installation and tuning.

rear mounted literally means the turbo is mounted rear of the motor, often where the stock muffler is.

i'm expecting to spend close to 6 grand by the time the motor is running properly. and about 3 grand of that on tuning alone.

wow! sounds like you would be better off Buying the whole Kleenman Supercharger package for $10k, its probably even got a warrantee too and you could be out drifting by now.

i already specked out my rear mount system and i can build it for less than $1,000 ... no need for tuning costs as i have no problem doing that on my own. only thing left is for me to convince myself to go for it .... i just don't feel the need for "speed" anymore lol ... all the knowledge none of the drive. exact opposite of when i was 18... lol.

if you think it will cost $6k consider the kleeman low boost supercharger kit instead ... same price already tuned.

added: my cost is that low as i am doing all my own fabrication ... i have the tools as i have done this many times before on multiple cars.

so this is like an sts system then, is that what you mean by rear mounted?
