Default Extended warranty...thoughts

I have concluded that an extended warranty is not a good option. From my understanding it covers the mechanical drive train and little else. Am I in error?

You can get an extended warranty to cover anything you want - it just costs more. If your car has under 48,000 miles, you can get one directly from Chrysler. There are several levels, from basic powertrain to covering everything except wear items (brake pads, tires, clutch, etc.)

Here is a dealer that has pretty reasonable pricing on the Chrysler extended warranties:

I bought my warranty. 7 years 100,000 miles. bumper to bumper for $1,300. I didn't get it from dealer because he jacked prices up to make a profit. I got mine from www.Chryslerwarrantys.com I figured it was well worth is, because if my radio brakes, its about $1,300. So i figured one small fix will cover the cost of it.

My extended warranty is a bumper to bumper warranty. It covers everything except wear items (brake pads, tires, clutch, etc.) like greenie said.

You can buy an extended warranty to cover almost everything as several posters have stated.

However, over the span of your lifetime of vehicle ownership extended warranties are not cost effective. Best to self-insure and squirrel away a few $K for those infrequent but costly repairs.

Just make sure you read the warranty. We used to sell these through the company I work for (a major insurance company) and the small print is very important. I think buying from a manufacturer is a better idea than some of the stand alone companies but read the entire warranty and understand what you are getting. Some specify they can use used or reconditioned parts, some have deductibles. We had a guy that bought a used Corvette and he bought one of our warranties. It clearly stated in the warranty we can use reconditioned parts (which by the way were covered for the length of the warranty). He never read it. He blew a transmission and expected a new one, we gave him a reconditioned one. That was the last time I sold a warranty. Its not worth $10 bucks to hear people ***** about what they think they should be getting.
Again Read The Warranty and make sure you are clear on what it covers.

Pat's exactly right. I had an extended warranty on a used Cirrus i had, and it was from "fireman's" or some other such company. My brother, who works for a DC dealer, thought he was doing me a favor because it was cheaper than a DC warranty. Well, i needed a tranny and the company gave me all sorts of grief. They would only pay for one days rental, but they took 4 days to send a guy out to the dealer to inspect the blown tranny. He tried to decline the repair, but my brother got the head honcho in the finance office to make a call asking if they wanted the dealership to stop selling their warranties. They then authorized it, but only for a junkyard tranny. Luckily for me the boneyards were selling used trannies for about the same as the dealer cost on a DC remain, so i got one of those. That taught me to stay away from non MFG warranties, so i have a DC max care on my Crossfire. Worth the money IMHO, i almost always end up getting more out of the warranties than what i pay for them.

Anyone know for sure if...

www.Chryslerwarrantys.com

Takes you to the actual Chrysler Group or does it take you to a third party warranty company that has similar web sites for other brands also?

I've recently received a mailing directing me to www.servicecontracts.daimlerchrysler.com. This site seems to end up directing me to a local Chrysler dealer to obtain a quote.

I have had both 3rd party and DC extended warranties on cars over the years. I would definitely recommend buying directly from DC. Your dealer doesn't have to get "approvals" from 3rd party insurers (or should I say, more likely, "disapprovals") to do the work. I purchased a 5 year, 50K warranty directly from my DC dealer for my '04 XF and it covers 5,004 items, basically bumper to bumper. It cost me less than $2K and I sleep very well at night. If, or should I say when, something goes wrong I just drop it off, pick up my loaner car, and wait for them to tell me its done. I don't care if the repair costs DC $10 or $1,000 - not my problem. Trust me, they hate dealing with the 3rd party companies; it's a lot of time, phone calls, hassle, etc. for them. In the time I will have the car, I know, I KNOW that a couple of things will go wrong and the warranty will pay for itself.

I would buy them from here:
http://chryslerservicecontracts.com/
My brother checked the prices out and told me they are $50 over dealer cost, and they are DC service contracts.

What does everyone think of Warranty Direct? I read the fine print and they seem to cover alot of things. They ever cover the supercharger for $150 more on the secure care plan.
