Default I am scared but dealer here I come...

As many of you know that a recall was issued some time ago about the fan modulator on the crossfire being faulty, well apparently broke today... I was casually driving and the coolant icon started flashing this gave me a big, but I kept driving and watched as my temperature rose to a new high... made it back home... and checked the coolant and it appeared to be perfectly normal, I mean the coolant usually would not cause such a rise in temperature so rapidly all of a sudden... All I am left to believe is that the fan modulator needs to be replaced...

I made the appointment for next week, and I am very scared, but I do not think I have many other options.. the vehicle is currently undriveble... Anyways wish me and my car luck... I hope it does not come out deformed...

Hope you have better luck than me, they put a 1/2 scrape in the front of my air cleaner cover. I wish you luck.

My dealer had me in and out in no time with no problems. I've heard a couple issues here, but had none myself...

Maybe I should just buy the part and change it myself, because the more I think about it the more I think giving it to the dealer is just immoral...

Be sure and check the clip on the fan shroud that holds the wiring harness...they snapped (actually, twisted) mine off rather than disconnect it. I made them order a new shroud and I replaced it myself in about 15-20 minutes. That and the scratched cover seem to be the most common issues. If you bring it to the service managers attention beforehand...you MAY be okay. Good luck.

Maybe I should just take off the engine cover before handing it in or will they find something else to scratch... thanks for the info though I will definitely tell them about that I will also be watching them work through a glass window because for "insurance" reasons I cannot be inside the garage... I even offered to sign any kind of paper work that I take responsibility of my own insurance, but they just out right said sorry we cannot do that it is beyond our control and is the law of the area...

I wouldn't want to drive it around without the filters and with it sucking dirt straight in the intake. Just watch them close and it should be okay.

I know how you feel. I just had a service done and I told the service manager I dealt with that I put a lot of time in to keeping my car ding, scratch and dent free. I also showed him my engine cover which I spent a lot of time on. I
think he got the picture. I also do a walk around when I get the car back with the service writer. They can laugh at me all they want, I want my car to stay nice, I plan on keeping it for a long time. By the way the woman in front of me who dropped her brand new Jeep off for service literally smashed her driver' door into a railing in the service lane, I cringed, she didn't bat an eye. I think its important to show them you do care about your car.
The fan recall for me was no big deal, they did a great job of not screwing things up, at least for me. Good luck.

Pat

Same here. Only took about 45 minutes, too.

I never received a recall notice for the fan relay on my '04. How can I find out (without taking my car to the dealer) if mine should have been recalled?
I know I'm eventually going to have to take it in for something, but I've been lucky that nothing has gone wrong in the last 20k I've driven it.
With all the horror stories about the mistreatment our cars receive at the hands of Chrysler Tech's, I'm just not ready for my car to be manhandled by strangers.
Thanks.

Honestly if you have time on your warranty do not even bother fixing it until it either gives in or your warranty is a few months from expiration, my car was driven 20k miles before the problem kicked in...

But if you must i believe all the crossfires produced march 2004 - september 2005 are on the recall list... there is a link through the chrysler site I think where you can check it through your vin number... it is posted somewhere on this site too just gotta spend a little time searching about the recall...

Thanks Sidez, now that you mention those dates, it seems I remember reading that somewhere here on the forum.
My car was built in Jan. '04.
So far, it's been a good one. Sure hope it stays that way.
I'm still going to have to find a good dealer eventually though.

Try this page. Follow the directions about entering the last eight characters from your VIN and something should show up. Good luck.

Thanks Maxxm, but when I clicked on the page, nothing came up.

Here's the longer version of the page link:

http://www-5.chrysler.com/webselfser...m%28%27R%27%29

Its the chrysler.com "Recall or Customer Satisfaction Notification Information" page. Hope this one works for you.

I just input those eight characters for you -- the web page answered "No Incomplete Recalls or Customer Satisfaction Notifications Exist," so you're in good shape from their perspective (assuming their database is accurate and up to date, which might be a stretch for DCX and the Crossfire).

Sidez, i had my fan assembly replaced at Grand Dodge of Englewood and have been going there for years ('97 avenger, '98 neon r/t, '03 SRT-4)... its a simple procedure that takes less than half an hour... they know i inspect all work performed afterwards closely and have no issues with that; and i have no issues with their techs cause they do their work proper and clean. although i did have to pull my own car in cause their guy did not know how to get it in reverse hahaha ... hey that's okay, this is a american car brand and this is very much not a american shift pattern ...

I must warn you though, it should have been replaced earlier ... the high temps you saw could be enough to warp the delicate aluminum heads and cause head gasket leaks ... if not already then down the line in the future ... anytime you see the temps go up like that it is best to either gradually speed up to see if rushing more air through radiator will cool it enough (such as on a highway) or come to a dead stop and turn off the engine right away (such as on a slow local road). let me tell you, after owning a '98 neon r/t i know how much of a pain headgaskets can be ... they had horrible single layer headgaskets pre mid '98 that leaked like clockwork so i had the pleasure of changing several for friends neons and my own to the newer multi layer design head gasket and 3 out of the 5 of them had to have the head milled flat to make it hold a seal again due to being overheated once after the gasket blew.
