Funniest/Stupidest thing you've done in your Xfire?
Re: Funniest/Stupidest thing you've done in your Xfire?
stupidest thing:
i was looking for the rattle in my trunk (the latch rattle), so i was in the trunk looking around for it, and thought to myself "its unlocked, i can get out" and proceeded to close the trunk hatch. good thing i had my cell phone on me.

Fiancé could not get the key out of the ignition - I go to look at it, try to start the car, wouldn't start, try to get the key out for about 5 minutes...then realize it is in 'D'...not Park...her other car is a manual trans so she leaves it in gear...I felt like quite the rocket scientist.

I am embarrassed to say this but. The first day I bought my car, pulled out from the dealership, right after I paid for it. I was sitting in the car talking to my dad, and had the key in the "On" position and the radio on. My dad got out and got in his truck to go home. I didn't realize the engine wasn't on, and I put it in reverse, and started to roll down the small hill i was parked on to turn around, trying to back up and right, then go forward, thinking the engine was on. When I stopped and tried to go forward, I wasn't going anywhere. Was giving it gas and everything, I was in D, and couldn't figure it out. Then I had a stroke on genius, and remembered I never started the engine.

I'd say the most fun I've had in my crossfire was the laps at Orlando Speedway last year.

This should probably go under the 'features' page ... I had turned the car off at the dealership for a second to go in and grab a personal item I had left inside. Wife was in the car.
When I returned I tried to turn the key into the 'start' position and it wouldn't turn. I had not returned it to the full off position. This is some sort of safety feature to keep you from 'starting' it when it's already running. If you want to start the car after a small period (2 minutes I think) it will make you return the key to the off position first.
Felt like a real tool, but the dealer helped me figure it out... after he called over the fleet manager.

Well, here is a good one. I had my little dog in the car, taking her to the Vets. She always wants to sit on my lap. As she was sitting in “her” seat, I went to get on the freeway on ramp. Because the light was on, allowing two cars per the green light, I had to stop. Well I guess the dog thought I was were we were going, and she thought she was going to be getting out of the car. Well she kept jumping over the console; I kept pushing her back in her seat.
Well when the light turned green for me, my car would go about 1 mile per hour. I thought OMG! I just blew my transmission up. And I had all these cars behind me. I shoved the dog over one more time, looked at the dash, and discovered I was in first gear. I never pushed that paddle so fast to get my car back in DRIVE, to get on the freeway. I was never sooo happy to see what had happened.
So now, I put my purse between the seat and the dog, to keep her from pushing on the paddle.

Also 2 seconds to the left will pit it directly into first.
Re: Funniest/Stupidest thing you've done in your Xfire?
I purchased my new Crossfire on EBAY, So I left on April Fools Day 2005...(was that an omen?) to go to Paducah Kentucky to pick it up.
After I filled out the paper work, and the salesman showed me where "most" everything was at on the car, it was finally time for me to start my much anticipated 9 hour journey home. Just then (with 3 salesmen standing in the showroom, arms folded, watching me) I realized that (even though I had test drove a 6 spd. Crossfire 5 months before) I never actually backed up in one.
Now my Honda, Miata, and Viper all have manual trannys, and each one has reverse in a different location, but none operate the same way the Crossfire does. So I knew the salesmen were probably betting on how long it was going to take me to figure out how to get the darn thing into reverse.
They looked a little disappointed when it only took me about 30 seconds to do it, and it was just by "dumb luck" that I accomplished it too.
I'm not going to tell ya how long it took me to figure out how to open the gas door at my first fill up, but let's just say, I had to locate the owners manual first.
