Newbie checking in
Newbie checking in
Hey! Although i am a newbie to the Crossfire forums, i am far from a newbie to internet automotive forums. In fact, at last count, i have owned over 80 different vehicles in my life. I am happy to say that the latest is a 2004 Crossfire coupe. I have been looking for a few months for the right car, after my wife prompted me to treat myself for years and years of hard work and self denial. (she is a sweetie!). My youngest is away at college, so i don't have to do the minivan thing anymore.
I found a Charcoal 2004 limited A5 with under 5,500 miles on it. Immaculate inside and out. Price was $18K, not a bargain, but fair IMHO. Still has 6 months of warranty left on it, plus i am going to pick up a DC max care 7/60. My brother is the service manager at a DC dealer, so i know that she will be well cared for.
Although i only have a days worth of driving, i love this car. My wife took her out for the first time today and returned with a huge smile on her face. This car ROCKS!!.

Re: Newbie checking in
congrats... best part is you got it practically new at a price that most people get a new civic for... i feel almost guilty having such a nice car at age of 24 as most of the members here have worked their entire lives before they treated themselves to something this nice but i am glad to be a part of such a experienced group of car people ... if after that many cars you bought this, it must be a great machine after all.
Re: Newbie checking in
Thanks for the welcomes. I plan on spending some time reading through the forum to get a feel for things and also start gathering mod ideas and advice.
fireamx, the jets strafe the 900 turbos and 9-3's....I think these are the planes that have been strafing my '96...

I am going to have to transfer the 7/70 powertrain, it's a $150 fee to do that. In addition, i want to put a 7/60 max care on it. That way i don't have to worry about anything other than oil changes and wearables.

There is one at a dealer in Altoona with 21K on it...its red. I got them down to 17.2 and it has a transferable DC added care plus service contract on it. Also, i know if an '04 with under 800 miles on it FSBO, black with cedar...i was actually on my way to look at that one when i ran into a blizzard and had to turn around and go back home. It is still available AFAIK.
Re: Newbie checking in
Congratulations Blackbelt,
I bought the twin of your new ride in Madison, WI about a month ago. Although I have been trying to keep it out of the nasty wx, I have still managed to put 2k on it in that time. Wow, do I love that car. It is so nice to be back in a real two seater. About a week before my first son was born back in 1981, I recall seeing several packages of Pampers jammed up against the rear window of my Jaguar Series 1 E-type coupe. It was an ominously negative sight. With the new baby, I knew the FHC would not be seeing much action. Soon after driving my wife and son home from the hospital in Watford, north of London, the Jag was shipped back home and sent into storage while I went to sea duty and another overseas tour. (Wouldn't you know after riding home from the hospital in an E-Type, my son became an automotive designer. How's that for early life influences?) Some bad luck while in storage dictated some serious (read expensive) repairs before I can put it back in service. So it now sits dismantled in the three car garage I built to shelter it. My wife and I promised ourselves a new sports car when our second son graduated from college. Unfortunately, our old sedan was giving signs of giving up the ghost. So the sports car came early.
Damn, the bad luck!
Yes, I does handle better than the E-type, but they are both a blast to drive.

Cool story rayban...I have always loved the E types! My youngest is in his second year at The University of Pittsburgh for Mechanical Engineering. Thankfully he received a full tuition scholarship from the university honors college (although room and meal plan are not included, it’s still a nice savings for us), so Dad and Mom got the 2 seater a few years earlier than planned.
I brought my first born son (now 23, with a chemistry degree and a new wife) home form the hospital in a new 1983 VW GTI. When he started college he was driving that very same GTI.
I haven't driven the Crossfire since Sunday. My driveway is quite steep, and if there is any chance of any amount of snow, i am not going to drive it. I have a Jeep for that!
