Default Headlight Switch

Had a question about the headlight switch, I read the manual and couldn't find anything about it. I have the foglights, and I know you pull out once to get the foglights to come on, but you can also pull out again and nothing happens (from what I can tell). I see by the foglights emblem under the headlight switch there is another "spot" that you could probably put something to illuminate but I don't know if something is going on I don't know about and I'm just ignorant, or is this for something to be installed if I wanted to?

It's a German thing, the second click turns on the "rear fog light". It makes the rear driver side tail light brighter. It makes you more visible to approaching cars in the fog/limited visibility. A safety feature for the Autobahn and such. At least that is what the 2nd click does in an Audi.

European thing - not just German.
It would be interesting to know if all the wiring is there for a rear fog light, or whether just a few connections are not hooked up.
Does it just make the drivers side light brighter (probably legal issues with that, as it may need to be a dedicated unit for fog lights), or do they replace that reversing light with a for light as they do on many European cars?
If all that were the case, you could purchase a drivers side light and have a rear fog light.

its not a matter of wires being there or not; the entire headlight switch assembly is different. the fuse for the rear fog lamp isn't even molded in. i looked into this when i got my OE tail lamp assembly from Germany (with rear fog lamp).

Is the wiring there or not?
You can fit an in-line fuse yourself, that's the easy part.

I usually pull it out 2 clicks, so your saying that my lights in the back aren't equally bright, guess i'll have to step back down to one click.

no, your lights are equally bright. on euro and aussie XFs, there is a rear fog lamp in place of one of the reverse lamps (see the pic above). pulling it out a second click on US cars does nothing.
