just a means of transportation for some...
just a means of transportation for some...
i took my car into the dealer today for an oil change... wow... another white crossfire pulled just before me... a rare sight indeed...
but...
a complete lack of care or attempt thereof with this crossfire like most enthusiasts... it was beyond trashed...
heavy heavy brake dust build up... the rocker panels where just covered with months of debris... tail pipes black as night... curb rash galore...
truly a filthy crossfire from top to bottom... this thing looked as if it wasn't washed for many many months. a car is a car to some i guess.
while i know i am quite the extremist... but this crossfire was just uncared for. sad imo... so sad i didn't even talk crossfire shop in the waiting room.
sorry... had to vent.

Re: just a means of transportation for some...
well andrew, i hate to shatter your super clean dream land... but the thing has four wheels and a engine to move it. it kinda is a form of getting from point a to point b but its how much fun you have on the way that counts.
you'd be very angry with me andrew... my xF has been sitting in the garage all winter, DIRTY ! it has water spots and filthy wheels.
i consider what you saw a sad sight ... but at the same time i consider your car more of a religious relic on display ... the right balance is somewhere in between to me hahaha.
oooh btw, my brother just got a '04 automatic limited coupe in black ... matches my '05 stick base coupe very well !! crossfires everywhere !

Andrew I know what you mean. There is a guy in this area that has one of the first ones, an '03 and every time I see it I just shake my head. You have a nice car why not keep it nice? I don't know guess I'm a fanatic but my car is my hobby, always has been. If its above freezing and its a Saturday, the car gets washed, by hand. It takes me 1 hour. Once a month it gets Zaino'd. I go over every crack and crevice and I also clean under the hood every week. The car is a year and a half old and looks better than the day I drove it off the lot. If it snows it sits til the roads are clean. I just can't understand having a nice vehicle and not taking care of it.

Re: just a means of transportation for some...
Allowing one's car to go from dirty to filthy reflects badly on the owner. I cannot understand how anyone could let the appearance of their ride sink to that level unless the car is a real beat up clunker.
Even in my VW bug and Pinto days, I always found the time to keep my car clean.

Re: just a means of transportation for some...
Now that I think about this, I remember seeing one downtown Chicago last year; illegally parked on a corner that was so filthy it was hard to tell what color it was, all beat up, dents, scratches all over. The interior had dirt caked on the dash and console. I guess if anyone is of the opinion that a car is just transportation, why wouldn't you just buy a basic inexpensive car. I've seem BMW, and MB in similar conditions. Go wonder...

Re: just a means of transportation for some...
Seems to me I recall that Andrew took his camera EVERYWHERE. We saw pics of other cars while he was driving etc etc etc. So, Andrew, was this Crossfire TOO dirty to snap a shot of? (what's the emote I use so I don't get in trouble?)
I just had to add that.
What also gets me, and it's not just the Crossfire that gets abused, all cars at some point are in the hands of owners that just drive them and gas them up. At work there's this awesome blue Honda Civic Si, they've got nice lines. Well the side was smashed in, the bumper smashed, and it's got to be a 2005, 2006 or so. Cars are too damn expensive to be treated like that.

But really, it is sad to see someone trash a nice car. I agree, if you just want to get from point a to point b why spend the money on a nice car.
Buy a cheap ______ (you fill in the blank, I don't want to get myself in trouble. LOL).

Re: just a means of transportation for some...
Right now my Crossfire is filthy, but I am a poor college kid and the weather down in Virginia has been pretty bad. I kept it really clean during the summer, but the winter months it's just so hard sometimes on a limited budget.
I will take donations to help keep my baby clean though!!!
Thanks,

Re: just a means of transportation for some...
I heard about that surgery fireamx...no wonder Andrew didn't know you. It irks me also to see cars that are abused and mistreated but you have to remember that not everyone is "nuts" like we are and no matter what they buy and how nice of a car it is they are going to treat it the same way. How many times do you see a clean car that has dirty wheels. I have often wondered why they don't clean the wheels also...??? Now that gets to me!!!
