I agree.
I don't know why people buy nice cars and don't look after them.
If they don't want to do it themselves then why not pay someone to wash it once week.
I think the problem is how easy it is to get a car these days.
Years ago people had to save up to buy a car.
Now you just walk into a dealership say I want that one sign a few forms and it's yours for only a small deposit if even that.
It's the second biggest purchase you'll make after your house.
Why not look after it.

The thing that worries me is when you buy used from a dealer.
You have no idea of how that car has been looked after.
Once the valet gets it he can polish it up like new.
If you buy used from a private seller you can often get a good idea how well it has been looked after.

Norrie.

Norrie.
I have never bought a car anywhere, but a private seller. And whenever I made these purchases I paid a lot of attention not only to how the car looks but also to the seller, like how he dresses talks about the car, his knowledge of it. Ask the seller where the car is made and how much horsepower it has... and if he cannot answer these questions turn around and leave (unless it is a woman) that is the first thing I would do. People that do not know what they have do not treat it well... that is a general rule I follow.

And yea andrew would not be impressed with my car at the moment either. =( Curb rash all over the place and very dirty wheels... just don't really care for them as I am replacing them very shortly.

I agree with Norrie - It seems that we are living in a 'disposable' society, where saving up to buy something, anticipating when you get it or rewarding years of hard work with such things have become history - I still have my 1st car ('72 Dodge Demon 340), which I bought with money I earned for 2 years mowing lawns and throwing papers...It now has 260,000 miles on it, and is getting ready to undergo its 2nd restoration - but it still draws attention 22 years after I bought it! Seems now a days things are too 'easy come, easy go...'

I agree its a sad sight...

Detriothokie - Come on now, no excuses... There are car wash places everywhere in the burg. Although being a tech alumni, I remember the constant distractions that would sway me from keeping my truck clean. Now if i had the xfire in college... mmm the fun I would have had!!! Hope to spot you down there sometime!

JP 2005 - I bought my 2003 GT Cruiser on June 28th 2003. The dealer had just got in the first Crossfire. It had no window sticker, it was definitely June of 2003 and it had a sticker on the window, $37,000 FIRM. Color was a light metallic blue, almost silver. It had real Louis Vuitton luggage which I though might get me off the hook with my wife if I brought the Crossfire home instead of the GT Cruiser. I thought about it for a couple minutes and decided maybe I should wait. The reason I think the one I mentioned is an '03 is I have seen that car in the Olney Md. area since that summer. They may have been as you say '04's but that car has been on the road since a least late summer of '03 and its been filthy every time I've seen it.

Hey CBXFIRE, I know I shouldn't make excuses. I have some special wheel cleaner, but it requires me to spray it off (and I don't have access to a hose). Also, as I'm sure you remember, beer money/downtown money is quite important! I graduate in May though, and plan on taking much better care.

If you ever in the 'Burg, send me a PM. I have the only Crossfire I know of in Blacksburg. Shouldn't be too hard to spot me cruisin' around!

PS - GO HOKIES!!!

Thanks,
DetroitHokie

Unhappy Re: just a means of transportation for some...

i was at a local bmw dealer yesterday... and noticed a graphite gray coupe... upon closer inspection... the passenger side was just peppered with a line up of at least 20 dings.

clearly this car parks on the left hand side of the garage. its bad enough when some else dings your car but the other household driver repeatedly cracks their door into the car parked next to it... ouch.

another case of just transportation.

go figure... my camera was at home... trust me you all would have been disturbed... ok maybe just me...

i actually like seeing neglected cars, including other crossfires. think about it from this perspective - if you take meticulous care of your crossfire, and others don't, you will be able to sell much easier and for more money if you ever chose to do so.

People like this don't deserve nice cars. How can anyone possibly be that careless. I can't stand dings, and if I do get one, I get it removed ASAP.
