Default Insurance costs XF vs. Vette

I found out something odd a few days ago. I was paying $79 every six months more for the '04 XF coupe than my brand new '06 Vette. I keep $750 deductible. Also, I have a Saturn Vue that is also higher than the Vette.

I pay $454 every six months for the Vette.
I paid $533 every six months for the XF.

I'm curious to find out why.

That's probably true because I pay about $588 per 6 months on my XF but I was also looking at an 04 Lancer Evolution and the 6 month premium was $1,110, nearly double. Everything was the same except for the collision which means the Evolution has more expensive parts in case something happens. MY guess is what 04Fire said; the Corvette is more abundant than the Xfire so the parts will be cheaper. Also, the Corvette uses US parts which will probably be cheaper than some of the German parts we use, but I think it's because of numbers.

It depends on the insurance company, and who is the average driver. Corvettes are generally middle-aged guys who don't drive them much, and generally take care of the car. They are almost always garaged as well. The XF is close to the same. Generally middle aged persons (because of the cost of the car), but the XF is driven daily more often. Parts costs are also a factor, the Vette parts are indeed cheaper. The Lancer Evo is a ricer, driven by "kids" who stoplight derby them, so the insurance is sick on those. They are also targets for theft. The XF is about $200 cheaper a year than my 4-banger Hyundai was. The case with that is again, average age of driver, and especially the cost of parts (thats what the insurance people told me).

The safety of the car is also a factor. The X fire has a lot of safety features too. I have it as a second car and I pay about $300 for 6 months.

Those rates make me want to puke! My insurance went up AGAIN and I am a safe driver that only filed one claim in the 6 years I have been with Progressive. My rates are AWFUL! Florida is not cheap anymore... In one year my rates have doubled...

I know what you mean about Florida insurance rates. My in-laws live there and their insurance has been going through the roof. They have changed to a couple of different companies, but the initial lower rates don't last long.
Also, my father-in-law has a 1994 Corvette. My insurance on the SRT6 is near double what his is. Probably because the SRT6 is 11 years newer and I am 32 years younger.
I also noticed that the coverage on my SRT6 is the same as 2 of our other cars put together - a Honda Accord and a Toyota 4Runner. Although I think I am going to put 'storage' insurance on the SRT in the winters since it won't be driven.

Just thought of something else - I almost bought a Lexus SC430 convertible and the insurance on it was about 30% less than the SRT6.
