When I took mine in for its first service they put a paper floor mat in the floor. When I picked up the car the mat was filthy with black grease. They also didn't know how to reset the oil change reminder. I stood and watched the head mechanic with greasy fingers punch all over my dash board. When I got home I wiped all the grease off. I have black interior but I went ahead and cleaned the carpet and it was dirty.

"another crossfire was in for service on friday as a 'waiter' in the lobby... and a new cover wasn't in stock (parts dept) or available from a dealer owned crossfire (new or used)... so the service advisor told the mechanic working on the other crossfire to take mine... and they would order a new replacement for my car". WTF.

i was pissed... what else did the dealer borrow from my car??

i confronted the new service manager... and he claimed he wasn't aware of this and felt it wasn't right. he was going to look into the matter and call me tomorrow.

the complete service nightmare from the beginning:

Andrew I feel your pain, and I ain't Bill Clinton. I've only had my Coupe for 2 months but the first thing I did was take it to a Mercedes Dealership, at my expense and have a Service A performed, installed K&N Airfilters and replaced the Cabin Air Filter. Oil change and filter was $115 and was very professional, young lady greets you at the service drive thru, takes you to a service writer, and poof! car and lady are gone. Wife and I went shopping, lunch and Dr appointment, came back in four hours and all was done. Same young lady went and got the service writer and then my car. Service writer explained in detail what they had done and informed me that I had a slight oil leak around the oil sensor, and that seeing the car was still in warranty I should have a Chrysler dearler fix it free. It was a hot day, and there was a bucket of iced soft drinks and "MercedesBenz" Bottled water, which she wiped dry with a fresh snow white towel. Superb experience. Fast forward, 24 May' 08, took car to local Chrysler Dealer 5* and they confirmed leak and had to order part. Took car back in Fri 30 May and the only "Certified Tech for Crossfire, Viper, and Prowlers" was put to work on it. I went to get some lunch and came back in an hout and heard this GODAWFUL banging. This (&U&%$# was hammering on my oil pan with a 4# machinist's hammer. Service manager told me pan was stuck and be another couple of hours. I had them take me home, I couldn't watch. Hour and a half they called, car is ready. Wife took me down, car looked ok, no comments or anything so I drove home and put in garage.
Next morn, started car and backed out and there was the 8 qts of Mobile 1 on the floor. Pist, I called the Boss and the owner, had the car hauled to the dealer and the oil pan was cracked. Car is supposed (?) to be ready today with a NEW oil pan. I told them I wanted the block dye checked for cracks and they agreed. We shall see. I'm not done wih the owner yet, but if I EVER need any warranty work done, I will drive 50 miles if I have to to another dealer. For all other maintenance, I'm sticking with Mercedes.
Andrew, I found in the past the quickest attention getter is to get the 800# of the Consumer Protection Division of your State Attorney General. Their letter head and admonishment to the "perp" is usually all it takes. Good Luck.

Upsetting story indeed; however, I'm sure Andrew isn't too worried any more. He now drives a BMW 3 series. This thread is from 2006!

On a side note, my car was in the shop for over a month for a faulty seatbelt alarm. That was never repaired, but they did ruin my interior and had to replace most of the panels due to their incompetance.

Last year my supercharger pulley popped off it's shaft and ground into the aluminum emission line in front of the engine. I pointed that out to my service rep and he said the line would be replaced. A month ago I was checking my ASP pulley installation and noticed that the line had not been replaced. I went back to the dealer and a new line was ordered.

While waiting for the line to come in I saw another problem. The plastic trim piece that the passenger shoulder belt comes out of was cracked parallel to the belt opening. I figured that the dealer would not replace this under warranty due to claims of damage even though I rarely carry passengers and had no idea how the piece broke. But you never know.

So back to the dealer I go to check on the status of the emission line and ask about getting the trim piece replaced under warranty. My service rep, a different one from last year, said she couldn't make a warranty decision and that it was up to the service manager. She got a hold of him and he asked her if the car was still under warranty. She said yes and he said to go ahead and replace the piece.

I don't think my dealer is a total screwup but at the same time I've lost the warm loving feeling from before. At least the dealer doesn't give me any grief about warranty coverage.

It is most certainly theft regardless of who authorized it...I would sit down with the owner of the dealership, tell him to get his *** together and take care of this problem or the local prosecutor, news team, will....

go in there and rip off a engine cover from a random crossfire in the parking lot and walk out with it in your hand.

Racermp and Voyager...this is an old thread.

Unfortunately, Andrew has turned in his Crossfire and has traded up to a BMW. (a damn nice one though!) He still pokes his head in here to make sure we're all in line, and to dispense out great car care and cleaning advice.

We all know someday he'll give in to his Crossfire urge and get another one!
