Let me get something straight...
Re: Let me get something straight...
I absolutely LOVE my Crossfire, and my husband loves it too when I let him drive it. The only complaint we have is that Chrysler does and did not support this great car. I am happy everytime I drive it and we can't say enough good things about the car to all the people that admire it
Re: Let me get something straight...
Hi all! I'm also sort of a newbie to the CF world. This June I got a new 2005 limited in White (not my first color choice, but all they had on the lot) out the door for $25k. This is my commute car and I drive roundtrip to Princeton, putting 100 miles a day on it.
I'm about to break 10k miles and the only service I had was the oil change and 7500 mile maintenance (a little late). Cost - $0! -- a perk from the dealer, Rothrock in Allentown.
The only problems I've had:
The car has been great and handles fantastic in the rain, as good or better than my wife's Subaru Forester. And a nice little racer in good weather.
But, I expect some interesting times when the snow starts here in New Jersey. I don't know why people garage it during rain or snow -- to me, cars are to be driven, that's the fun of it.
So, bottom line, I'm happy with the car, no regrets, and after looking at Mazda RX8, Saturn Sky, BMW, Z car and low-end Porsche (Ferarri F1 and Bugatti Veyron out of the price range), I feel I made the right decision.
Looking forward to getting more tips and pointers from this group, and maybe a Crossfire get-together one of these days.

The only problems I've had:
- dead battery cell at 2k miles, replaced at no charge by dealer
- rear window defroster had some bad wires, replaced at no charge by dealer
- a little hesitation in 1st gear, corrected by dealer
- sub woofers -- still don't see them doing that much

Yeah, my thinking, too. I have home theater sound system with a nice subwoofer and I can feel the kicks through the whole room. The dealer said it was operating at spec, but it seems like since I got it back, the bass has a little more presence. Go figure...

Yup, I'm not really looking forward to snow drives in a rear-wheel sports car. But, I have been VERY impressed by the handling in bad rain and slick leaves -- the traction control kicks in and keeps it stable.
But when the white stuff comes, unless the roads are cleared, I'm staying home or driving the wife's AWD Subaru Forester.

comparison
'04 Coupe Graphite / Vin # 1071
"1st Edtn"
Rotex pads/Brembo rotors
Sony CDX-F7005X Disc Player
Finished brake calipers
New console slot storage (and no 'cupholder')
Parrot CK 3500 bluetooth system and Ipod connection
I have had my Xfire for a few years now, having bought the first one in the county which was the demo car driven by the dealer's wife. I paid a very fair price for it when it was five months old and have had some minor problems with it, but with persistence, have gotten most to the mysteries or complaints resolved. I also have invested some for additional "luxuries" as this is my "fun" car and I do not depend on it for everyday transportation. I still like the looks, but yes, it has some drawbacks...but is still an exciting car to drive and seemingly, uncommon. I believe, if you view it as a luxury and not a necessity, one's perception might be different?
I, too, however, share the sense that Chrysler is abandoning its focus with follow-up...as apparently they will go out of production in the near future. I hope this is not the case, but commiserate with those who have had difficulties with dealerships and the parent company. I sometimes wish I had a larger garage and shop...as well as the patience and mechanical experience to go with it.
Best of luck,
TJG
postscript: My gal friend looked at the Solstice and the Saturn as well at my recommendation, but felt the trunk space would not accommodate her needs...and like the Crossfire better. I am drawn to the Tesla, but need to save my $$$ or sell one of my cats...

Re: Let me get something straight...
You have got to be kidding I have been lurking here for a while and everyone but a few love their cars. I know I love mine I have an '05 LTD in Red and I know I have the coolest car at work and there are quite a few nice cars at work. The closest thing I have seen is a Saturn Sky and with its 4 banger forget it did that with the lousy PT Cruiser we bought in 01 we ordered it and paid full price and it just broke even 4 yrs later on a trade in on a Pacifica which I can tell you is a much better ride. I bought the Xfire for less than 25k with about 23k miles which was high but the car was almost flawless.
Re: Let me get something straight...
Usually, the ones that do not even come close to representing the majority speak the loudest. Same as politics.
My Crossfire is a great automobile that I would not trade for any other car out there. It is a blast to drive, comfortable on short or long drives, fast, and no other vehicle comes close in the styling department.
The vast majority of us really love our Crossfires judging by what I read in this forum.
