Just to add my $0.02, I've had my Crossfire for just a bit over 2 years now,
putting over 35,000 miles on it to date. I don't now, nor have I ever, "loved"
the car. But, then again, I generally don't "love" inanimate objects. However,
my opinion is that this is probably the most awesome car I've personally
owned.

Having a car dealer for an old man, I had the opportunity to drive many
different types of cars. From Panteras to highly modified 'vettes to
classic Porsches to Cadillac's to a host of Z28s, et. al. None of these
have quite the feel of this car, not to mention the exquisite styling. I've
had more powerful cars, but this machine just makes my day.

1 Year and 23,000 miles later. I love mine - no problems, no issues and even a decent dealer... I had a Mustang GT before this. I thought I loved that car. After having the Crossfire - there's no comparison - the X-fire is just one swe-e-e-et car.

 

the only real complaint you will hear out of us whiners is the lack of aftermarket support. the new rav 4 does the quarter mile as fast as our cars, that's not very cool.

I really do enjoy the car! I don't think I will get rid of it either! Yes it has some issues which are really minor and if DC was to keep the car in production they would have to correct them, like 3.2 to 3.5 motor upgrade, rack and pinion steering, and tilt wheel. Would I buy another, hell yes and this time the go faster!

 

just did a 6 hr road trip I love my car 25k in less than two years best daily driver I ever had.

I've had this car since July, and I've had more inquires, comments (good or bad), run in with the fine folks in uniform than I've had than I've started driving. Is it a curse? FBD, I think you got that right. Do I mind...nope.

I wish it had a few more ponies.

 

HDDP end up like the fiero...funny you should say that '85 2m4.

The only problems I can think of is the 19" tires harder to find and cost big bucks.
Backing up can be a challenge at times from a parking stall, lane changes bad blind spot because of style shape of the car, getting in and out of the car someday just adds to the fun.
No spare tire my biggest issue about buying the car. I've had many a great road trips so I'm over all that now, lack of power over other cars in its class for myself I don't need 400 hp.
And a pile of tickets to have fun...I think the other members have touched on the rest of the issues they have dealt with. The xfire is very different from most and that's why I'll put up with all the above small problems. I enjoy washing the car by hand and feeling those sexy lines and curves on the car...maybe I'm crazy but I own a xfire and most don't its part of the thrill and fun of having one.
For me its not a toy, toys come and go.

 

HDDP is that some new math? I paid $29K in April '04, so you're saying an '04 is now going on the lots for just over $11K? Don't tell that to the dealers around here they are still getting $18k - $25K on the lots around here. Those great deals everyone is mentioning don't seam to be making it to the northwest, but then again we are still paying the third highest price for gas in the nation. Only Alaska and Hawaii pay more for gas then Idaho.

 

Which means the car I paid $41K for in November of last year (yes, I paid full price people!) is now worth about $25K? Oh well... I've driven lesser cars worth less then that and was embarrassed to drive that car but its all I could afford at the time.

Personally, I don't care that some think I paid too much for my car because at the time, that price was a deal/steal to be able to drive my dream car. Plus, I didn't buy this car thinking "what will it be worth in a few years". I bought this car to be able to keep it for many years... and if I can enjoy it this much 2-5-10 years from now, then I got my monies worth.

Plus, the reaction I get from people on this car makes me feel like I have a million dollar car. And I feel like I do each day I get into it... I still get that sh&t eating grin each time I get in it!

 

I had one fellow employees telling people I owned a $75,000 dollar car! (LOL)!

Another friend asked me how much I paid, 50k? (lol)!

Sharonaln67 I have discovered that cars are like homes it all depends on location as to what you will have to pay for them. Before you decide whether you paid too much or not check your local lot and cars.com for current used retail listings, don't rely on what is published on this form.
I check the lots in my area regularly and cars.com in a 500 mile radius and the retail value for my 2004 is between $19K and $25K. Since my car has low miles on mine I don't see where my car has deprecated much more then $5K-$6K, that's not bad.

The other things are mentioned you can't put a price on like the feeling you get when driving the car, the comments and the looks. The car has class and it definite possesses a uniqueness factor many of the other cars in it's class do not.

 

Only people in the know, know what theses cars are going for.
Most people still don't know what it is but seem excited to check it out.
I paid 23k for my '04 because I was in the right place at the right time. If it was more than that I would have had to buy used.
I wanted the car badly but I have a family and priorities come first.
I never looked at cars as an investment. If you feel it is worth what you paid than you got a good deal.
Cars are a poor investment. It is an item that 99% of the time depreciates.
I build classic cars for a living and that is an exception, but then again the market can drop at any time. You can buy a 6 pak cuda for 150k today and sell it next month for 175k or it could only be worth 60k. It is a gamble and a game only for people who can afford to lose.
I love my crossfire and could care less what its resale value is.
If I only planed on driving it for two years or so I would have leased it.

The car is an absolute blast to drive, it's handling is world class and it is a joy to see and be seen in.

On the other hand, it suffers from a lack of horsepower, the wiper speed control sucks and the heating/air conditioning system can't manage to control the temperature and airflow in one of the world's smaller passenger compartments.

Most of the unhappiness you see on this board is the direct result of Daimler/Chrysler's inability or unwillingness to fix the problems that do crop up in some cars or to stand behind the warranty that they advertise as part of the purchase.

I've been to all five local Chrysler dealers and the BEST result was the dealer who performed an A service when I asked for a B service. At least they didn't put an insufficient quantity of regular oil in it (a common problem mentioned on this board is dealers who put regular oil in the car instead of the synthetic Mobil 1 required by the manual and under fill the car).

After repeated complaints (after four visits for the same problem the service rep said; "please don't bring the car back for these problems again") I finally got to talk to Chrysler's regional service rep who was nasty and hostile. He did manage to get me to bring the car in for another service in which they fixed the clock (it took ten days) but none of the other problems and did significant damage to the doorsill, console, instrument cluster and door panel.

When I contacted the owner of the dealership he told me to call the Better Business Bureau and refused to comply with the Ohio Lemon Law.

There are people on this forum who have had no problems with their Crossfires and people who have gotten good service from their dealers. I haven't.

 

I don't like my car much now. I leased it because I needed a car and there wasn't a better car for your money and I enjoyed the low payment and the car.

Then the problems began, within the first week of ownership. I could live with that, because the dealership tried to fix them. Now they make up excuses and don't fix anything.

Meanwhile my father brings in his 300C and complains about a few things here and there, like his stereo randomly changing station from time to time. They would tell me they can't duplicate it, therefore there is no problem. For him, he gets a new stereo no questions asked, even though they told him they could not duplicate it.

Luckily I didn't purchase it and hopefully in the next 10 months it won't get any worse, because I know the dealer won't fix it and the last 3 months I am without warranty. After seeing how they catered to my dad's 300, it makes me wonder if Chrysler Corporate is telling the dealers not to go out of their way to service the Crossfire.

I have a transmission that pops out of gear, but not when a tech looks at it.
I have the popping noise that is a recall, that they fixed but didn't and ended up tearing some of the weather stripping around the door frame -- I'd complain but I know they will deny it.
I have a lifter tick that is supposedly a noisy injector that is not warranty replaceable.

I have reasons not to like my car, but it's Chrysler's doing. Sadly, someone will pick this up on the secondary market and be very disappointed with it.

I think these "good" prices reflect the coupes not the roadsters that re-sell for more. I can't put a price tag on my smile and the fun I get driving my roadster. It's always a joy to get into the car and I've been blessed with zero issues mechanical wise...knock on my keyboard...

I like your style and I'm sure behind the wheel, you turn heads everywhere you go!!

I absolutely freaking LOVE my Crossfire. From the days I downloaded a screensaver of the concept, staring and sighing because I just knew I'd never be able to afford one - to the day I drove my red Xfire off the lot - till today when I still get excited about my drive home from work.

FirebaseD - you are one funny man! I can certainly relate to that kind of addiction/relationship. Expressed as only you can!

The xfire is one heck of a car for the price. In 20 years, it will still be seen as a very stylish car (think fiero and delorean) - and other companies will copy its style cues. YOU will be able to say, "I had (have) one of those!"

 

I could not agree with you more. On the Crossfire that is.

 

I just have to join the fracas. I love my xfire. Sure there are faster rides, like a Viper or Vette or more stylish rides like a Cornishe or Lambo. Then if you want handling like a sled get a two wheeled rice rocket from Suzuki. But if you want a combination of all the above the xfire is the one. It compromises in each area but gives you a ride that turns heads and feels absolutely GREAT! It's not the best in any one area but it is good at all of them.

I just love it when a car zips by in the fast lane, gets about two car lengths ahead, then brakes and slides back to look at my xfire. They smile, wave and then zip off. It is a fun ride. You can't go anywhere without someone asking about it or at least giving you a thumbs up when they see it.

Life is short, so do what it takes to enjoy each and every day!

 

Dear God …FirebaseD …they have medications that should be able to make things better. Failing that why not part-exchange it for something else and keep your sanity.

I love my Crossfire and have enjoyed every moment of owning it 40,000 miles over 2 years. It’s very reliable and loads of fun. I also really love the exclusivity, often not seeing another Cfire for weeks. But then again I am in Colony Central (UK).

I have one minor gripe. Never ever take a Crossfire out in the snow with Pilot 2 tyres on. Just don’t go there.
