Hey X'ed what's up?

The GTO aint a bad car at all, in fact its a good choice. They have gotten 450 whp out of a cam only car.

But you are quite ill informed about the mustang GT. The S197 stang is on a all new platform. Its a modified Lincoln LS platform. I was at the track with my '06 GT vs a '06 GTO. We went several times. I was running 14.0 @ 100 he was running 14.0 @ 98 I heard later in the day he went 13.8 @99. D/A sucked, for comparison a C6 Z06 was only ran a best of 12.2 @ 115.

However, a guy with the same car as me, bone stock went 13.666 @ 94. He tried shifting into 4 and missed. He nailed a 1.92 60' My 60 was a high 2.1(still learning the car)

I had about 500 miles on my car at the time, he had 700 on the GTO.

The new S197 platform is great. I bought my fully loaded mustang GT for 26k new plus 0-72. With only an intake and tune they can go 12's. The 3v responds great to mods, and the new suspension is great it just hooks and goes. And the interior is not as nice as the GTO's but it is close.

You should just check out the stang, you would be shocked at how far it has come. Next year they are introducing a 400 hp 5.0L for the new boss coming out.

But as I said you can't go wrong with the LS2. I was going back and forth whether to get a GTO or Stang. I went with the stang because of looks, and the 0-72 made my decision that much easier.

I have spent $850 in mods, and I should be in the mid 12's when my stuff gets here.

450 whp can happen in the 3v stangs as well for about 4k.

Let me know how it goes with the GTO.

I do have one question, how could your dad (or uncle?) been selling lsx motors for 10 years +. I was under the impression the lsx motors first year was 1997. We are now in 2006. That's 9 years.

my bad on the fox body thing, that's why i asked if it was still running on that platform, i wasn't sure. my poor grammar led me to forget to put a question mark after the "isn't the mustang still running on the fox body platform". the gt is a great car for the money, but 400 horses for the same price gives the gto the win for me. and sorry on the ls motor comment as well, your right, it has been 9 years, introduced in the c5. my friends dad is the one who sells them, and he didn't start until they came in f-bodies. i exaggerated the time a little, forgetting that he actually started with the lt motors, which are almost equally as impressive and the ls is a natural progression with that motor, sharing much of its design with it. the gto, challenger, new camaro and gt will have a great rivalry for years to come, im sure, but bigger motor, more potential, right? i mean 6.0 liters is insane for 27k. my decision, coincidentally enough, has come as a result to all the love the gto gets from srtforums, i haven't seen you posting over there in a while btw. its just such an easy motor to mod, and the engines are practically bullet proof, although i hear the top end is pretty weak under forced induction. i would probably go with that sts rear mount turbo if i went fi on the gto, i think i saw 560 whp somewhere with that setup, in the mid 11's on slicks. too bad you live out in michigan, we could have a run a year or so from now. anyway, good luck with the car, we have had some spats but only because you gave up on the crossfire before me, but i guess it turns out you were right, its a crappy platform for mod happy people like you and me.

oh yeah, btw bullseye, if i was you i would have made the same choice. 0-72 financing from ford ftw, no doubt, that the best freakin deal in the world. if its around in 8 months, then count me in for the gt. the truth is i cant wait to get rid of the crossfire, im so close to picking up a second gen rx7 turbo II for a weekend car, the crossfire is so anemic it makes me sick to drive it sometimes. can you believe its a nose to nose race with a new RAV-4 F#@KIN RIDICULOUS!!!

sorry, last annoying post from me, but one more thing. why oh why oh why oh why oh why can't the srt-6 just be manual. forget underpowered regular crossfires, THAT is the biggest mistake chrysler made. that would be my car in two seconds if it existed.

Michigan?

I am in Chicago. a suburb Actually. Aren't you too? Or were you saying your in michigan?

I take everything on here lightly or not at all. Alot of this was for entertainment purposes. Passed time inbetween classes.

Yes I have not been on SRTforums in awhile. Been way to busy researching the S197 stang. 2 weeks ago I knew virtually nothing about it.

If they do the 0-72 again, I may get a california edition lol. But you can't go wrong with the Stang or the GTO. Both great cars.

I'm probably one of the few who are excited about turning in his car. Mechanical problems, hassling from the dealership and a complete lack of refinement really make it hard for me to get excited about driving the car for another 10 months.

I'm looking at a small sedan to replace the Crossfire. I'll probably look for another promotional lease, just because I thought for $299/mo I did pretty well on the Crossfire.

If I had to make my decision today, I'd probably pick up a Saab 9-3 to be different.

On guy has gotten one to run 12.9 bone stock. Read it over on ls2gto.com

The average I see from the LS2 gto are 13.5 @ 103. With the exception of that 14 second GTO.

They are pretty close the new stang and GTO.

The record for the GTO is 12.9 @ 108xx and the record for a new stang is 13.2@104.xx

I'll find the link for you, I was talking about the track day with other gto guys on ls1gto.com.

EDIT:

Found the thread.

A GTO was my second choice and sometimes I wonder if I should had made it my first choice, however a few things come to mind. 1) The gas mileage and performance of the Crossfire makes it a good choice due to its cachet vs "everyone on the block has one". 2) I am still sold on the German engineering, 3) I too wish the SRT had a manual, 4) I think if I was to do a trade-in it would be for a rare 6spd Crossfire Roadster, 5) For less than $30k out-the -door only a couple cars can come close to the overall value, style and performance.

BTW, I did not lease and would not recommend doing so for others...its a bad deal in the long run.

$299 a month is not a bad deal, no one can prove to me other wise. after 39 months i will have spend $11,700, you guys will have lost more than that on your purchase. on '04 with 50k on it by june of '07 will probably bring 15-17k on a car that was probably bought at 31-34k out the door back then, because there wasn't much discounting on purchases back then. so explain to me how it was a bad choice, money wise, in the long run to lease and not buy. 34k out the door is probably more realistic, in that case you are down at least 17k.

Question. My dad is leasing the Crossfire through DaimlerChrysler right now. It is a one year lease that ends in May '07. I really want to buy it when I graduate. Does anyone have any rough ideas how much the price will be? I currently have 8,000 miles on it (started in May '06). I'm hoping my signing bonus with whatever company I start working for out of college will help. I know there a bunch of very nice cars out there, but I don't want to give up my baby.

Thanks,
DetroitHokie

The buy out price on your dad's lease should be stated on his lease contract. You can always call the DaimlerChrysler Financial for the purchase price if you can't find it on the contract.

I've got 8 months left on my lease and I'm in a quandary too. The XF only has 17,000 miles on it now. The car has been nothing but trouble-free, knock on wood. My Michelins are pretty much shot and I cringe at replacing them only to get rid of the car a few months later.

I like that Subaru hot rod, the new Challenger, the 300C, the Saturn is sexy but looks like a chick car. Hell I don't know. If I get rid of the XF I know I'll hate myself in a few months and I don't need two cars.

i'm with you on the challenger, but the thing is they are gonna start over msrp and won't be out until 2008. the base is "supposed" to go for 28k, top range for 40k or so with the 6.1 hemi. there are now even rumors that the manual may not be an option initially. that, and i am always leery of first year production cars, and the crossfire proved my point. while it doesn't have any major problems, the squeaks and moans get annoying.
