Another, is this a good price question...
I'm looking at a 2004 crossfire coupe, white/grey, 19k miles, auto. I'm probably going to be able to get it for about $17,700.00. It's a one owner, off lease vehicle at a Chrysler dealership. Carfax is clean.
Good deal, yes or no.

Re: Another, is this a good price question...
I thought that price sounded fair. If what your saying is correct what should that car sell for 15K? If so show me some selling for 15K. On the manheim auction report for this week they sold about 25 2004 crossfires nationwide at auction. With those miles they went for wholesale $15,750 - $18,250 so retail at that price is fair. I have not seen any yet.

Re: Another, is this a good price question...
I thought it was a fair deal, I did both an auto trader search and ebay search of out to 500 miles from my zip code and most coupes were hovering with asking prices around $20 - $21,000. I looked at one today with 9,000 miles and they wouldn't budge off $21,500 and another one with 17,000 miles they wouldn't budge off $19,900. Both coupes and automatics.
The cheapest car I found was asking price of $16,900 and had 63,000 miles!
Maybe I'm in an area, (North Florida) where the cars are pulling more money? I looked at a '04 coupe auto last week, asking $22,900, 28,000 miles, not good condition and told him that was a little high priced and I could get into a convertible for that and he scoffed at me and told me "that's absurd"...
I'm searching as far north as South Carolina and as far south as Miami. Is there any where else to look other than autotrader and eBay, that has a lot of cars listed??
Any help?

Re: Another, is this a good price question...
You are on the right track and I think you have a good handle on the pricing. If you truly were going to by the roadster I would suggest looking at the listings up north, NY, PA, Ohio etc. Prices from now until spring will be soft. You are just entering prime for low vert pricing. In your neck of the woods a hardtop might not be as desirable. Heck if you find one up north fly in drive home. Airline and gas home should only be $333 - $400.
Re: Another, is this a good price question...
I'm looking at 2004 coupes and 2005 limited coupes only. I've owned 2 boxsters and really hardly use the convertible.
Is it really worth traveling that far for a car? Plus traveling obviously costs money and also time that I really don't have right now. It's hard to break away from work...
Are there coupes selling for $15,000.00 up north with under 20,000 miles???

Re: Another, is this a good price question...
I think the car you found is a good price and being white it will hold its value in FL. I'm not saying there are cars selling for that low up north all I said was if you expand your search and find the exact car you want (colors/miles) then traveling that far is not a problem. I've gone to Jacksonville, western Ohio, Detroit for cars in the past.
Re: Another, is this a good price question...
blitz993 It all depends on where you live. Here in Idaho KBB lists the car at $24.7K and the two that were on the lots this summer went for $21K and $24K. So $17K would be a great price from my perspective. Thirteendog is correct, there are some smoking deals out there in certain places in the country, it just depends if they are in your neighborhood or not.
Re: Another, is this a good price question...
Oh, the car is exactly what I've been looking for, that's not an issue. I just have read so much on this board about how cheap these cars are getting and when I asked previously whether $17,700 on an '04 coupe with 19k automatic was a good deal and the first post is telling me it's a bad deal and the mileage is too high. It kind of makes me wonder where are all these cheap cars at? Am I over looking something? I've found nearly 60 coupes and the absolute bottom was and '04 6 speed with 63k, for $16,900.
I'm just wanting to know where all these rock bottom deals of a lifetime are???

Re: Another, is this a good price question...
This is funny, I just did a nation wide search on autotrader.com and found a 2004 coupe with 20k for $15,000. It has a salvage title. I found another for less only $13,500. with flood damage and that was the cheapest one in the country that was still together. A couple were selling for around $9,900 but they were wrecked/totaled...

$17,700 is a fair price for an '04 with 23K...What you should look for is a new '05, the discounts are unbelievable. Here in Michigan you can get a base for $18K - 19K, Limited for $24K - 25K (same car as '04 you looking at) and SRT for $29K...(Coupes).
Good luck, its a great car at a bargain price for what you're getting...

Re: Another, is this a good price question...
I did go that route as well. I checked with every dealership that was again within a reasonable distance about 300 miles away or less. Everyone had none in there inventory. Sold out long ago. Do you have a number or website of a dealership with any 2005s left in stock??

Re: Another, is this a good price question...
I think 17K is a fair price. I almost bought an '05 with 14k miles. The asking price was 20K, but I had them down to 17.3K. I decided to go with an extremely clean '05 black roadster with less than 3K miles (chrysler corp. car) and Chrysler certified. I got it for 25K out the door. Most of the '05 coupes ltd's I've seen in the Chicagoland area are going for 20K - 22K with 10 - 20K miles, but think they can be negotiated down. In some cases the prices are all over the place 17K - 34K, used. The dealer I bought mine from has two brand new XF, one is a LTD coupe, and the other a SRT-6. They have mark downs of 8k - 10k off sticker which I thought was still high. The stickers were 42K and 47K respectively.
You can go to Edmunds.com and do a national search as well.
I think you're on the right track. These cars are a great value right now. I don't think the prices will drop much lower.

Re: Another, is this a good price question...
FP,
I am with you, I'm thinking these cars are going to bottom out price wise real soon. I mean what other cars are available this close to new with low miles for these prices? They are worth a crap. I mean you've got a an SLK underneath this body, if they get much cheaper you could part them out and come out ahead.
I was looking at audi TT 225s and decided that the crossfire was a better buy. Because you can get into an '04 or '05 model with less than 20k compared to the audi which will be an '01 or '02 model with 60k for the same money and similar performance and options. And the audi has it share of problems like coil pack failures and timing belt issues. I'd say the crossfire will require less maintenance over the long haul. Which seems to make them an even better bargain.
I think that the more people enjoy there cars and stay positive about them, they won't depreciate too much more because they are a lot of car for the money and people will start realizing that in the used car market. As far as those who paid MSRP when new, they got hurt but I think a lot of used car buyers will benefit and start buying these cars, spike a new interest in them and help re-sale values stabilize...

Re: Another, is this a good price question...
Blitz993, Upstate is absolutely correct, drive a little and save alot! The prices of most used cars are always a little higher in Fla. In the N.East "Great Lakes" region it's much more seasonal. If you can wait until the snow starts flying, you will see even bigger bargains on sports cars up here. Just watch EBAY, that's where I found mine.
If you can only afford $17,700 right now, my advice would be to save up for a few more months. I bet you would be able to find a brand new '05 automatic coupe for less than 23k.
I bought my brand new '04 6 spd. in late March of '05 for $21,700, and a few weeks before I got mine, the same dealer sold one for $19,500!! So the deals are out there. I drove 18 hours (round trip) to get it.
I don't know where you live in Fla., but Jacksonville is an easy 15 hour drive from where I live (the snow belt) and in a Crossfire that would be a fun and comfortable trip. I've never got out of mine feeling fatigued.
I picked mine up on a weekend so it didn't interfere with work. Airfare shouldn't be much more than $100, who knows what gasoline will cost tomorrow?
As I said before, If you have the luxury of waiting, then being patient could put you into a brand new one at a bargain price. Good Luck.

Re: Another, is this a good price question...
I guess, I am looking at cars, thinking that I may be getting them after the big depreciation drop that most new cars see in the first 2 - 3 years. Yes I can find a new 2005 with little miles for $23,000, but in a year it will be worth $17,000. Another factor as to why I 'll never buy a new car. I may be taking a gamble that the car will slow in it's depreciation, after 2 - 3 years. I believe they will, also a reason I'm looking at 2004's. Many are off-lease cars that are usually well kept and dealers require less money for them because often the lease buy out is much less than the retail.
Re: Another, is this a good price question...
As an owner of an '04, I'd suggest you look for an '05 or newer. It appears that the majority of the people who have problems with their cars, myself included, own an '04.
I'm leasing mine and at the end of the lease it's going back. There's no way I'd consider keeping the one I have.
