i have to say... i've had nights where i was the back seat passenger of a car running in the low 12s drag racing against other rather fast cars on the highway (when i was younger) and all i can remember is getting in the middle, buckling all 3 seat belts, and going to sleep... this was a common thing for me back a few years as i was the builder and planner of the group ...
i never did find much fun in it though ... i just liked building them ... going along for the ride was just chance to be around my friends.

but when i got my xf i found something i really did enjoy ... taking rather low speed corners with great finesse and getting the sensation of pure *** hauling around that corner.

btw, many of you will be glad to know the street racing has largely been dismantled in this area by organized police strikes where they would impound many of the cars ... i can't say i disagree with it, there was plenty of not very street legal cars being driven by shady characters around ... things i would not trust doing 25 mph in going way faster ... aka, duct tape racers ... strap a engine in it and go, but lacking braking power and traction...

150 ***** TO THE WALL... and I care less what you think about it, it's my car and I'll push it as hard as I care to do... it's all about speed baby, otherwise the Crossfire would come with a 4:10 positive traction rear end, and only 4 forward gears... and yes everything but the crossfire is moving backwards at that speed... hooah

The car has a governor? 145 mph and 5k tack?

I did hit Hwy 840 yesterday with a friend. He drives an '87 Porsche 911. He got a ticked a week ago and wasn't willing to open up. But, he did spot for me. We couldn't find an area that was straight and long enough with out quickly coming to a curve or hill that could hide a speed trap. Also, traffic was a little heavier that I was comfortable with.

I only got the car up to 128 and I went from accelerating to breaking... I simply ran out of road "for my comfort level."
Even with the crosswinds, and there were a few gusts, my XF felt rock solid, but I was not able to cruise for any length of time.

There is always tomorrow. I know I can hit 140 without breaking a sweat.

When I had my 92 Eclipse AWD, I took it up to 125 a couple times. Made me nervous, though the car handled ok. Had a little shake at that speed. However, with the XF sticking to the ground as it does, I felt confident in avoiding disaster at higher speeds.

Electric Messah;

Nicely done, and I agree 100% the XF sticks to the ground as you go up at higher speeds. Love taking corners as well, you feel like you are on a carnival ride. The car indeed was engineer for high speeds no question about that, then I read people's threads on this forum saying (I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN THE CAR UP TO 70 MPH or I DON'T SPEED IN MY XF). Then why did you buy it?? If that's the case then get a Hyundai or something know what I mean. Love the ride, it's PHAT PHAT PHAT!!!

Near Future Upgrades
1. Exhaust - Magnaflow / Flowmaster
2. Chip Upgrade - Upsolute chip tuning
3. Cold air intakes - K & N
4. 20" wheels & tires rear / 19" wheels & tires front
5. Crossdrilled rotors front & back / GreenStuff racing brake pads
6. Steel braded brake lines
7. Eibach sport tuned springs- drop 1.5"

I will post pictures as soon as work is done!!!
KEEP RIDING FAST BABY!!!

I got mine up to 220 km/h (136 mph) at the beginning of the month...felt like I was floating on air. Hahaha. I drove my dad's E55 on monday night and hit 260 km/h (150 mph) and had my foot flat (with my dad sitting next to me ), but reached the limiter so the car wouldn't go any faster. Amazing feeling, but in a car like that you would never know that your are going sooo fast...my friends who where sitting in the back didn't believe it til they saw the speedo.

Well, as of Christmas Eve, I've taken the car to 132 mph.

I drove 570 miles from Nashville TN to Kansas City KS. There was a spot in there with another fellow where we could open up. We cruised at 130 for a couple miles. Very very nice ride.

At another point earlier in the trip, I was doing about 120ish and drove over a divot/seam in the highway. No big deal or uncommon on many highways.

However, my front tires did leave the ground for a millisecond. I didn't care for that feeling of them returning to the ground. Didn't loose control, nor did the tires skitter or anything serious... Just that sense of floating suddenly went away with a return of the stiff suspension feeling.

I'd like to know what others who do run their cars hard and often have to say about traveling on 'older' highways at higher speeds.

I had been eying the crossfire for a while so I found a 2004 that the dealer let me take for a couple days to test drive. I took it up to 130 one night and bought it the next day. I love this car.

I was driving from Joshua Tree, California to Houston, Texas. Not on the Interstate but a deserted desert road, empty and straight. Top speed on a stock limited roadster with the top down and GPS confirmed was 151 mph. The trunk was loaded with luggage and only me as the driver, no passenger.

The road was not very smooth. Crossfire was great.

I've been on those roads. Fun driving... not so smooth roads.
Unfortunately, I didn't have my XFire at the time.

The weird thing about the X-Fire that I never had with my other cars, is that it's easy to do 100 MPH with out thinking, it's completely smooth, so going from 60 mph to 100 is easy to do without even looking at the speedometer, and then you're surprised you're doing a 100. You have to think to do 110 though.

Cannot say how fast I *may* have been going on this thread with the X-Fire (though I did commission a poll somewhere on this site about a year ago)...to be a geek for a moment, whatever speed I may have done in the past, was similar to when in Star Trek where the Enterprise is going so fast, that time goes backwards.

Here's the poll I did, I think the link below works.

That poll is 9 months old. Any point in making a new one with mph/kph?

It seems the majority have topped out at the 130 mph mark.

You can always do a poll yourself, maybe include the SRT's, clarify that it is based on MPH. Though I thought that was obvious since I gave an 80 option, which means that a driver using KM only drove their X-Fire 55 MPH as a top speed, ergo it was obviously MPH).

Red face Re: How fast have you been in your Crossfire?

Well... a little update... if I didn't already post this and have forgotten. ;P

For Christmas I drove from Nashville to Kansas City. Great weather and it was the first long trip I've taken in the Xfire. Surprisingly comfortable for long trips.

After I came back, I discovered I had just avoided disaster by sheer luck.

As mentioned in another thread, I had a slow leak in my passenger's side rear tire. I'd loose about 5 lbs a week. I thought the dealer had "got me". Didn't think too much about it as the tire was holding air for a week prior to my trip, during the trip and just fine when I got back to Nashville.

Then after sitting for a couple days (I don't drive the car to work very often) the tire had leaked again and my dummy light came on. I decided to take it to my local mechanic and see what they could find, price new tires, etc, etc.

They told me they found a nail.

So, I apparently drove 1,200 miles with a nail in my tire and was doing just over 130 mph for a couple miles in there.

WOW, you got lucky!!! What kind of tires were they? They must have been really holding on to that nail really good!

Tighter than a bulls *** during "fly time".

I don't have the xfire anymore - it went back to the leasing company at the end of the lease, despite my desperate attempts to extend the arrangement - but, I managed to get it up to the limiter 150+ mph many times.

Had a couple of good runs on the Autobahn in Germany near the Nurburgring, and the car was rock solid for miles on end. Also had a little run on the M6 toll road here in the UK, where I was near the limiter and a BMW Z8 appeared to my right. He accelerated off for a while, then realized I was limited so he came back and just sat next to me for a few miles, before giving me a wave. Very close to the best fun I have had in a car - certainly the longest sustained high speed run anyway...

Yes, yes. Bad behavior I know.

:-)

~ 90 mph. But it's winter and I've only had it for 2 weeks. Give me some more time and I will get there.
