This 6 year 7 month long thread has 200 posts, and nearly 10k views, and it has always mystified me. Why you may ask? BIG BROTHER!!
Am I the only person here who thinks our respective insurance companies can do a simple google search just as easy as the next guy?
Call me paranoid, but I just don't think it's in your best interest to publicly acknowledge at what unlawful speeds you have reached.
(Even though I personally know that everyone of you were actually on a "closed course" when ever you attained these lofty speeds).

They would never take the time. Maybe on Facebook but not on here. I highly re commend a closed course or controlled course. Too many things can happen beyond you control. Deer comes to mind.

I've gone 65 or so, no pictures to prove it because I don't think "hey I'm speeding, let me pull out my camera to show facebook how fast I'm going".

And Doc- there are accidents with deer on racetracks too.. less common but it happens.

I managed to get the governed limit out of mine of 155 mph a few months ago...
My XF is lowered and N/A with a modded exhaust and inlet, and it felt like she was on rails....

Believe me when I say, the scenery went past the window very fast....
I have since managed to get the speed limiter switched off, and she is now only limited by the 6,000rpm limit... but it will be a while before I get to Germany on the Autobarn again to open the tap.

I'm guessing that with enough road and enough wind behind me she may cap about 165+....
who knows ??? any one know ???

It is not some thing I'm in a rush to do again, as a crash at that speed would be messy and very sticky..
and the body parts would need to be scooped off or wiped off of the highway.

My advice after doing this silly speed..... Take it as Gospel that your car will do well over 155mph, and stick to 100mph..... Life is tooooooo short as it is .

Enjoy your machines, stay alive and enjoy.

Agree here.. she's seen 120 with plenty room to go more.. so I'm good. LOL. I'll stick to the "thrill" of the acceleration and handling..

Live long and Prosper... as they say.

I've worked in conjunction with this industry for years (decades). Anecdotal or individual prospective information is completely irrellevant to them Even if I walked into an office, self-declared myself as a threat to personal and public safety, told them I drove my Crossfire at 140 on public roads in Nevada, and requested that they raise my rates to better protect the public, the answer would be, "When, and if, this comes to us on one of our actuarial databases, we will address it. Thank you for the information."

I'm just saying, (Heaven Forbid) any of us ever make a mistake on the road and are involved in an accident that could be construed as our fault.
Wouldn't it be in the "plantives" best interests to appear in court with a statement downloaded from this forum saying we really enjoy breaking the speed laws with our cars?
I mean I have sat on a few juries that hearsay evidence (even though it's not supposed to be taken seriously) still caries a lot of weight in the back of a juriors mind when making a final decission.
Loose Lips sink ships, and all that.

Ran 143mph in a fun run at a military airport....not something i would make a habit of...its a fun car the way it is, but i still bought the tune today.....
Wrt crashing in at a high speed in the xfire....not sure if we would survive for a lawsuit.....just saying....
But for what some of us pay for the xfire its a great car for the money.

As most everyone here who knows me will attest,,,I am an insanely conservative driver. But ,,,,If I were to test my nerve I would go about 160MPH in my NA roadster Just west of Joplin MO on I-44.
Or perhaps it was on I-24 east of Paducah KY with a CLS 500 Benz clearing the path of Bears and such..

I once wrote about two fella's coming to St Louis Via Tyler Texas who claim they did some crazy driving through Arkansas. Now, I ain't sayin' it is true but they claim they drove 120MPH to 160MPH for a good part of the State of AR up Highway 7 Just north of Lake Quichatta to Mountain Home..

But that was just a story.........

However, if my wife would let me borrow her SRT coupe,,,,,,I would attempt 200MPH on US Highway 36 east of Moberly MO.

But I surely wouldn't tell her about it because she would take away my key.

140 double divided 2 lane hwy, and not once did i feel uncomfortable, had to pay attention sure, but never uncomfortable. Awesome car. The guy behind me who dropped off at 100 must have been though I will say i'd probably not do that again soon, because there are ALOT of deer in my neck of the woods. Cars seem like magnets to em.

2004 SSB 6spd Coupe, Annnnnd.......spring is almost here yesss!

Yep it amazes me how well these cars behave at 90-100 alone.. almost like its "cruising speed". The Miata topped out at about 118 and screaming.. 90 was comfortable and still stable.. but just doesn't compare to the Xfire at all.

The NA has power all the way up to the limiter at 156 MPH. Doesn't have fade or an loss of torque power. And the car handles well. Seems to get tighter the faster yo go. But , it doesn't feel fast, it's just that things go by faster. I mean it seems the 1/10 mile markers just wiz by every 2.3 seconds.

No sense of being loose or airborne or scary.

Or so I've been told.

My N/A Coupe gets to 130 quick enough, inches up to 140, and it takes its time to 155mph, With the road speed limiter removed, I think she would hit about 165 - - - eventually, if I got out and pushed....

And yes, stuff wizzes past the window pretty quickly.....
I'm out of my comfort zone past 140, and the only safe (ish) place to do that in Europe is the German Autoban speed free road.... at night, when the fools have left the roads and are tucked up in their beds drinking their cocoa...

In the UK, there are NO roads safe to do big speads, or any race tracks worth going too for high speed.. and unfortunately the Police don't like it, and we are a country with an overwhelming number of bloody fools, all on one small island.....
And, as soon as my ingnition lights come on, the whole lot of them take to the roads - just to annoy ME...

I gotta move some place else - Fast.....
Any one got a job in the USA for a good Automotive Manufacturing QA Engineer ?

80 miles per hour for about 10 seconds. I had to slow down; I drive like an old man. Once in a while, I get passed by little old ladies that have to look under the steering wheel! I just cruise wherever I'm going.

136 and it was as solid as it gets. No problems, I felt 100% in control and safe. Just glad no deer or dogs (or anything for that matter) jumped out in front of me...
