Default Warranty Questions?

I have the basic warranty and have about 27,000 miles. These are the problems that I have.

1. Spoiler - When it goes up it has a small squeak for the 1-2 secs it's going up.

2. Shift ****, Transmission - When I'm in 4th gear and cruising my shift **** has a slight vibration and makes a small noise, when I accelerate the noise gets louder. Then goes away when I shift to 5th or downshift. The noise is only on 4th gear.

3. Headlights have been eaten away from water and sun. It's about a inch of discoloration on the top. It looks real ugly.

My question is - Are these problems covered under the basic warranty?

I call service at my dealership and no one picks up!

Thanks

1. you can, and should, periodically lubricate the spoiler moving linkages. the dealer can do this, or you can do it yourself. it's really easy to do. your owner's manual even specifies the recommended lubricant.

2. i'm not sure if it's acceptable for the shift **** to vibrate, even though I've seen it on numerous manual transmission vehicles i've driven. if your dealer doesn't answer the phone call another dealer and get them to take a look.

3. your headlight lens covers are slowly oxidizing from uv exposure. this is probably considered normal environmental wear and tear. however, it isn't really even a problem because there is a simple solution - polish the lens covers every time you wax/polish the car. use a polish or cleaner wax which contain fine abrasives to get the lenses looking like new.

What is the brand of lubricant for the spoiler?

What about the light cleaner?

I use 3m perfect it II compound on the lenses then wax them.
Any mild compound SHOULD work.

So you use the compound and then use regular car wax?

I have never used any kind of compount before. How much do you use. Can you tell when you need to stop?

you probably won't need to use compound. as with any car finish treatment, it is best use as little abrasives as necessary to get the job done. first just try some regular old car polish. i used some inexpensive "nu finish" car polish i had sitting around to clean my lenses. it worked fine. it's also a one step process since the polish will also provide protection to keep the oxidation at bay for a few months. you can put on a coat of car wax after the polish to enhance the protection if you want. you could also use a cleaner-wax product instead of a polish to restore the lenses.

if the oxidized haze is stubborn and polishing doesn't do the trick then you could try compound. you would apply the product according to the directions in the same way you would apply it to painted surfaces. it's very similar to applying and removing car polish.

Thanks. I have some Dupont wax I will use. From time to time I use my invisible glass. There aren't any signs of oxidation yet.
