if its just the '06 "gt" with the supercharged 3.8l V6 at 260 hp... he still may beat you. it'll be close.

Who cares what he says, drag people in sedans with big motors and superchargers or V8s challenging a V6. Woohoo that's brave alright.
Challenge him to the back roads and see him eat your dust. That is where real drivers drive.
End rant.

lol. all this talk on this board about going on back roads. i never heard talk like this before until i joined this site. where i'm from people would laugh if you said lets go find some curvy roads instead.
its odd how come you guys think it is unmanly to call out a 2 seaters to a race? that sounds like a ricer excuse, "i'm n/a and you have f/i" or "dude you have 2 more cylinders than i do that not fair"...

Re: Crossfire vs. Grand Prix GT??? (Do I have a shot?)
LOL. JP its the first time you've heard that?
Listen straight line performance is great, but its such a one dimensional aspect of what makes a car fun to drive. And when I say back roads I don't mean dirt roads in Kentucky. I have spanked much higher horsepower cars just on route 8 in CT. Driving at the limit of the car and learning how your machine handles and behaves at those limits is driving. Going in a straight line with the pedal mashed a MONKEY could do and take ZERO skill on the part of the driver for the most part.
But when I take a car with 208 hp like my Porsche and utterly destroy a 300 hp mustang going up route 8 by exit 22 that is satisfying. To see him hit his brakes because he knows for a fact that if he tried to do what I am doing he will crash is satisfying.
Ricer? LOL ridiculous. Road racing and learning how to corner and use your machine is where its at. straight line acceleration is great for adrenaline junkies and its fine to say its fun. But comparing someone mashing the pedal and going in a straight line to somebody who actually learns how to drive and take advantage of how his machine handles is laughable to me.

Re: Crossfire vs. Grand Prix GT??? (Do I have a shot?)
no its no the first time i've heard someone say it on here it is said in different words, on the daily...just while out street racing, at a strip, or anywhere else have i heard anyone say lets take it to twisties.
i'm not calling you a ricer but spouting out that its an unfair advantage is stupid (ie: f/i, n2o, or ci).
i guess that's the difference though, i think of my xf as my daily beater while quite a bit on here look at it as their sunny day car.

Re: Crossfire vs. Grand Prix GT??? (Do I have a shot?)
Ok guy's, cease fire - it's all good! There was a time where I thought pulling wheelies and tearing up a 1/4 mile was IT and now I like taking the back roads with lots of curves. Now we all have our idea of what "OUR" XF is for and we are all correct ! You can turn a XF into a 1/4 mile car if you want and the ones that do will develop mod's we all will like and want, that is where hot rods come from and road racing will develop another type of mod's that we all will like. The XF was born out of an idea and new ideas keep it alive. Lets all get along. IT'S ALL GOOD.
Re: Crossfire vs. Grand Prix GT??? (Do I have a shot?)
Just dragging, straight line from a standing start, is a matter of: 1) Power to weight ratio, 2) traction, and 3) gearing. A standard XF, with 215 hp at 3,050 lbs is 14.2 lb/hp. I don't have the Pontiac's weight, but I'll assume it is at least 3,500 lbs. So with 260 hp that would be 13.5 lb/hp, he'd have you, except that 260 hp with front wheel drive is a recipe for tire smoke and little else. The XF's high gearing doesn't help at the launch, but it will be pulling VERY strong in the 70-100 mph range at the end of your run. This one will be close, and likely down to driver skill. The worse the traction on the selected stretch of road, the better the XF will do.
Re: Crossfire vs. Grand Prix GT??? (Do I have a shot?)
This is as bad as when I owned my MGB ... I have a friend that owned a 1967 Camaro and wanted to race my MGB. I was ... "Yeah right!" The MGB didn't had a NHRA sticker on it and neither does my Crossfire. I did tell my friend I'd meet him on the track at Road America, we'll see how the Camaro handles the turns, I KNEW what the MGB would do.
Same goes with the Crossfire ... my friend now owns a Viper ... hasn't challenged me (yet) ... but to that I will decline just as he'll decline meeting me at Road America.
Our choice in cars is the spice in life ... if we all picked the same thing it would get plenty boring over time.
And I agree with all the posts about adrenaline ... I don't get it from stomping the pedal to see how fast I'll get from point A to point B ... I get it from going through a tight corner, downshifting and stomping on the pedal at the apex of the curve only to see the others spin out or stop because the CAN'T do it.
Just my 0.02.

Arfons said he had heard that it was pretty fast, and asked him if he wanted to race. My friend said maybe, whacha got? Arfons said a Sunbeam Tiger.
My friend said, a Sunbeam, don't they make mixers? Everybody had a good laugh over his comment, then I leaned over and told him what it really was. Well my friends Plymouth had a 440 in it, relatively stock, shaved heads, aluminum intake, and a 4:10 gear. I think it ran 13.65 et's.
We all went outside to follow them to the usual place where most people raced. It was a mile long flat, straight stretch of road bordered by a lake on both sides, and visibility was excellent in both directions, known as Rt 43 about 6 miles south of Kent Ohio.
When Arfons asked where everybody was going, we told him to Rt 43, he said, no way, I didn't mean drag race, I want to road race ya through the valley.
Everybody started laughing, and shaking their heads at the ludicrous statement he just made. Needless to say, everybody turned and went back into the dance, and my friends reputation was safe. Because Arfons would have most assuredly handed him his "butt" on a platter after the first turn.
Sorry for the long "Back in my day" story, but that's what popped into my head as soon as I read jp2005s comment.
Re: Crossfire vs. Grand Prix GT??? (Do I have a shot?)
True, the xfire is not a drag car - but it is hard to find venues in which sporting credentials can be established. besides, why not? Easier to do than top speed runs or passing in turns.
Remember one thing vs that Grand prix thingy - its a front driver. Get the guy excited and he may just go up in smoke - if they have traction control get him to turn it off.
When I first tested the car, I was surprised at how fast it felt - especially in light of the revues which universally talked about how slow it was. Seems to me to be one of those cars that feels faster then it is, especially 2nd and 3rd, mid range acceleration. I've surprised myself by actually chirping the tires in 1st and hitting 2nd - thought the traction control was supposed to prevent that?
cheers

Re: Crossfire vs. Grand Prix GT??? (Do I have a shot?)
Here it is Brothers and Sisters, "I hate losing"... I do not care if it is in a straight line, or in a turn, "I Hate Losing"... When someone pulls up next to me and wants to drag race to the next red-light I'm all about it, I don't care about how well the Crossfire handles in the curves at that very second, all I care about is getting to the next red-light before the other car, and that's the bottom line... I know the Crossfire is tough in the turns of the road, and if I am dealing with another car in a turn I start caring how the Crossfire is going to handle... handling only counts if you are racing another car and you are in need of handing abilities... in addition, speed counts only when you are racing another car and you are in need of speed... all I can say is I love both... hooah
If your going to do drag racing you need to remove the Crossfire's restrictor plate, ok it's not a restrictor plate but it may as well be one, here is the outline... just follow the pictures...
1. Airbox with air restricting screen, and with screen removed...
Note: Liquid Ceramic Heat Shield Paint on underside of Airbox for cooling.
Here is the second screen, Intake with and without the screen...
This is where the third screen would be located, it is located down inside of the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor runner (below the second screen in the picture above) the screen is metal... I've only got a picture of the MAF runner without the screen, but you can see it if you look under the hood of your Crossfire, as you can see by my picture once I removed the screen the intake is wide open, SO BE VERY CAREFUL AND DON'T DROP ANYTHING DOWN INTO YOUR ENGINE...
My Crossfire is much quicker after removing these air restrictions... I did the hat on the dash test... hooah
