Remember, the Crossfire has almost no American content, it is Built in Germany from a combination of Mercedes parts (mostly prior-generation SLK and C-Class) and a limited-production body structure built at Karmann. Given the price, it is obvious that the majority of Crossfire-specific costs go into the body structure/panels, and that the interior and other bits have been the subject of obvious cost cutting.

That the reviewers, both professionals and consumers, have clearly noted this should be no surprise.

The Chrysler team's contributions have been principally to the styling/design, suspension tuning and specification of the wheel/tire package. These are, on the whole, quite successful (especially given the inherent limitations of the Mercedes steering and engine/tranny packages), since the Crossfire is lighter and stiffer than the donor SLK, and offers both improved ride and handling.
