Default Help

I am looking to buy my first car. I am interested in an '04/'05 crossfire coupe. They are hard to find yet I never see them. I spoke with some dealers and rumor has it they are discontinued.

Whats the deal with the crossfire? I have heard the chassis is from the old left over benz slk's.

Someone please fill me in before I continue my search for a black auto coupe xfire.

The car is based off of the R170 Mercedes Chassis - The car is actually built in the same plant -

As far as availability - Your dealer should be able to find an 05' or maybe there are some 04's. Look on Overstock.com or Ebay if you really want one. I love mine!

Believe it or not I just bought a new 2004 coupe two days ago for $25,000 out the door. They said they had two left. They weren't happy with the deal, but they were desperate to get rid of them. If you are in the L.A. try Clippinger Chrysler in West Covina. As for Raj.

Nice... I'm looking to spend a little under 25k. But my main concern is... what's the problem with the crossfire? There has to be some type of manufacture problem or something because for the price and the style much more of these cars should have been sold.

This topic has been talked about many times and I'm sure others can toss in some more reasons as to way the Crossfire did not sell well. One thing for sure, it was not because of any major manufacture's defects.

My opinion as to why the Crossfire didn't sell well, in no particular order:

- Built on an old platform and outdated technology
- Originally a little over priced ($35,000 for a Limited)
- Lack of advertising and poor marketing
- Competition from better known brands in an already tight specialty car market
- It being a Mercedes-Benz being sold and serviced by Chrysler

For the money (especially at today's discounted prices) the Crossfire is a unique one of a kind car that you don't see at every stoplight… an affordable exotic. It seems to be a love it or hate it kind of thing, and for most of us here... we love it.

So though it is built on an old platform and old technology... will it give me a headache. My brother had the slk kompressor and it has the exact same interior and chassis or whatever its called. He had many problems with that car. He went through 3 or 4 in the matter of 3 years. That is my biggest hesitation before getting the crossfire.

I don't see it as old technology on an old platform -- instead, it is reliable technology on a proven platform. I also have a 1997 E420 AMG, which has always been virtually problem-free while the newer generation E430's and E500's suffered from some serious reliability issues, particularly with their electronics, that have tarnished Mercedes reputation over the past several years. Newer is not always better.

There have been some issues, mostly with the earlier built cars. For the most part nothing that can't be fixed. One thing is to buy the car that has a service department with a good reputation for customer service.

Nothing is always perfect and there will always be failures along the way, but new technology is for the better or we'd all still be in a horse and buggy.

I'd love to learn more of the SLK problems. Consumer reports indicates excellent ratings for the vehicle with the horrible exception for electrical satisfaction. (well below industry average and exactly what I'm dealing with!!!

I've had limited success with servicing my vehicle and the latest Daimler claim is that my window tint is causing reception issues.
The radio pre set jumps to various stations on the same setting.

Has anyone else had tint or radio reception issues?
