Squeezing More Kw Out
Squeezing More Kw Out
I have had my crossfire (not SRT) for a year now. The problem is at the lights the crossfire is flat in first gear (my impression). It's only when I hit second that the crossfire surges ahead. I'd like to know what's the best and no fuss method to increase pull away from the lights? I know a guy that "chipped" his Volvo S60 and the take off is spectacular (I know this is a crossfire forum but bear with me!). Apparently it had something to do with advancing the timing!!?? Anyway - any suggestion from you peeps would be welcome.

Seriously, do you have the automatic or the 6-speed? I can't speak for the auto, but I have found that with the 6-speed, first gear is very short and with proper application of the throttle and smoothly feeding in the clutch (a.k.a. "don't trigger the traction control or ESP") launches from a stoplight can be truly impressive.
As far as performance mods go, they have been discussed at great length many times before. Head over to the technical forums and poke around a bit, or use the "Search" function. I bet you'll find what you're looking for.

Re: Squeezing More Kw Out
I thought that I was alone with this problem. I hadn't driven a stick for quite a while, and the last one I drove that actually had any power was my Das's '63 Stingray. In driving feel and sound, my Crossfire brings back many of the same memories...but there's nothing similar in the starting line performance. Power kicks in hard in 2nd and 3rd, but I can't seem to get a good start. The one time I did SEEM to get a starting charge the Stability Control kicked in and shortened my enjoyment. Fortunately, it doesn't come in to affect the higher gears.
Maybe we need some racing lessons, as I am sure I've forgotten how to do this...and there's not much opportunity for practice.
