Thumbs up Re: High end speed

My top speed so far has been 150 mph for about five minutes on highway 95 north of Winnemucca, NV until we got into traffic at the Oregon boarder. We were following a black Vette staying about quarter mile behind for the safety sake of my license. We have had the car over 120 mph many time. So far no ticket, but I think this year I am investing in a Valentine One detector.

I know exactly what you mean. We started the new year off right, in our limited roadster. On Jan. 1 '06 we crossed the New Mexico/Texas state line at 145 mph, leaving an SRT4 in the dust. Still had more to go, and handled better than I ever dreamed.
Still very disappointed though; I was under the impression that "Limited" was an option package, not the speed when your wife starts hitting you saying "That's fast enough... Slow down".

There was no one else on the road and against my better judgment- let's see what she has in her.

He counted down and I pushed the pedal down enough to stay even with the GT. Around 110 I began to pull ahead, so I waved 'bye-bye" at him and put the pedal all the way down. I was surprised that you could actually feel the pull of the engine at this speed and I was over 125 very quickly leaving the GT as faded memory. I would have thought the GT would have put up more of a fight, or maybe it was just the 'dudes' unwillingness to back it up.

I am very impressed with the Crossfire's engine performance and how the car hunkered down and just wanted more. There were no vibrations, no float, just shear intent to move forward. Though I raced Karts (100 to 110 mph on a 1/2 mile oval) in my youth, I would like to get some additional training, take the Crossfire out on a road track, and really see what the both of us can do. Is there any place like this in the US?
There is a major test track outside Marysville, OH known as the "Transportation Research Center of Ohio". It is one of the best kept secrets in Ohio. In addition to the 7.5 mile test track with 4 speed restricted lanes (top lane cars must be doing over 110 MPH), the Collision testing and rust/environmental aging center is here as well. Originally built by Honda, it was given to Ohio for use by ALL manufacturers.

The amazing thing??? It is "open" to the public. You can't really find it, as it can only be seen by satellite (privacy screens and anti-photographer nets)...check out Google Earth, coordinates W82 23' 33" by N40 18' 27". By public I mean that average Joes as you and me can get there...and drive our cars, trucks, CROSSFIRES, by invitation. I believe that the invitations only go to organized auto clubs. My boss went 2 weeks ago with the Buick Club. His Father-in-Law is the Buick driver, not him.

So...how do we form a Crossfire club of Ohio or the Midwest, and get an invite? I can work on the invite if someone can build the club...I'll join, I just don't have time to start a car club (frequent international travel).

Thanks for the information on the track. Below is the website.

http://www.trcpg.com

I sent a request for information to see what it would cost to rent the track for a day. Once I receive the information, I will post it. I was thinking if some of us wanted to meet one day, we could split the costs and have come fun!

Absolutely count me in on that. I think my boss would love to go back too and test his Mustang.

The way the XFire reacts at high speed is very well mannered. I've gotten it over 110 a few times and backed down from fear! Still had plenty of pedal left. As others have said, doesn't feel like you are going that fast. Maybe it has to do with its German upbringing?

I have had to car up to 120 running with a VW GTI. Or maybe I should say pulling away from it. Amazing how fast the exit ramps go by when you are running that fast. I would have gone faster but the wife couldn't see the speedometer needle anymore, and she put an end to that.

I haven't had my XF over 90 yet, and I've had it for over a year now.
But my Wife had it over 100 the first week we got it. I about died when she told me because that was very much out of character for her.
She did it on a two lane road (rt.224) about 3:30 in the afternoon, coming home from school. (She teaches 3rd grade).
I said, "Are you nuts?!!" She said there were no other cars on the road except behind her, and she couldn't believe how fast it got up to that speed. It felt almost as if she was only doing 65 or 70.

65fish, you might like 59 west of garnet, there is a nice long straight stretch, but its 2 lanes so you need to get lucky and catch it when nobody is around. Also 435 between topeka and emporia late at night or early in the morning can be alot of fun, hit 145 mph in both places more than once.

Someone mentioned that the Crossfire was built to cruise the Autobahn at 158 MPH. Any ideas of what the SRT-6 would do?

The same because they are limited by the computers. As far as un-limited, I have no idea. I am guessing they should go past 170.

Actually about 160 should be about it since the engine it taching almost 6,000 RPM at that speed. Someone posted a picture of his ride doing 155 and I remember the tach needle was sitting just shy of 6,000.

I believe that was just a limited that was doing 155 and the tach was almost at 6. I believe the srt-6 is geared differently so it might have a little more top end.

True, the srt6 is suppose to have 3.07 rear gears
Limited is 3.2? or 3.3? I believe
HDDP had a chart around here somewhere.
If the srt 6 gears are really smaller it would have a bit more top end.
I wonder why no srt owners have not put the limited gears in yet?
It would be quicked down low where you can use it.
Dam, I said it before and I will say it again...
I WANT GEARS! for my limited.

I believe the tach had 600 or 700 more rpms to go at 155. I saw a road test on the speed channel on the crossfire and it said it was the only US import for an American manufacturer that would do in the 170's. Needless to say we shouldn't be going that fast but at 120 mph it handles so amazing that it's in a much higher class of cars than the price indicates. When you can own such quality for such a low price, it is an opportunity into itself. I know I won't be satisfied with anything less in the future.

Safe driving everyone!

A regular SRT6 has a limiter at 255 km/h, 5,300 rpm. I know one who has removed the limiter and chipped his STR6 (~356 HP). Best result he got was 280 km/h+ at 6,000 rpm- (Autobahn was not completely free).

My highest I reach with the limited is 245 km/h. There is not much more above this speed. I guess the MT might get some km/h more than the AT.
But personally I prefer the speed between 190-230 km/h much more! The AT often runs in the 4th gear, the exhaust does a great sound and you can still feel the power.

255 km/h = 158 mph
280 km/h = 174 mph
245 km/h = 152 mph
190-230 km/h = 118-143 mph
