Hey,

Just wondering if there are any young crossfire drivers here in the UK that have got a decent insurance policy?

I'm 19 and looking to get a crossfire but cant find anyone thats gonna gimme a reasonable quote!

Thumbs up Re: UK people - insurance question

Hi Taabish,

I insure my roadster with Norwich Union I found it to be the cheapest after I asked for advice on this forum also.

I'm 46 though but my insurance this year for an '05 was £410 with a named driver on it although I don't often let the wife loose in it.

Hope that helps.

Hi mate - I did a search on www.confused.com - which shows a massive range in quotes (highest was £3200!!) - especially for me as this was my first car! Best place to search all providers tho'. Admiral were the cheapest for me by about £500 at just £750 (I'm 32 tho'). And a I've had a truck drive in to side of mine while parked up and took out the whole left hand side - I can vouch for the quality of their claims service too! hehe.

Cheers,

Andy.

Tabs I really feel for you ... Unless you are very well moneyed I am afraid you are doomed. I am with Direct Line £400 ish at the age of 39. Many companies will not insure you for the crossfire unless you are over 35 and have a long no-claims. If you do not have several thousand pounds burning a hole in your pocket your only option is to obtain insurance as a named driver - perhaps you dad could do this for you (if he is loaded).

Most UK teenagers seem to end up settling for a bog-standard 1.2 hatchback and then modding them to buggery (stupid exhaust and body-kit). I am sure this craze is driven by the prohibitive cost of insurance for the younger motor head. I had to wait until I was 35 before getting affordable insurance for a performance car (my god I had some sh*t rides).

You could always emigrate to the states - there seems to be plenty teenagers with crossfires there.

Actually, what i've been trying is being the named driver all along! Don't even want to think what some of the quotes i've had will turn into with me as the main driver.

I would accept these insurance quotes if there was ANY level of clarification. An example, nationwide (using the same system as tesco, direct line, privilege etc) will insure on a Lexus SC 4.3 hard top convertible for 3k but not even give me a quote on the crossfire coupe. Where's the sense in that? Even insurance on a BMW X5 4.4 is only 2.2k, as well as a 745k.

In terms of insurance i don't want to pay anymore than 2,000-2,500.

Tabs - just checked with my insurance (on-line) and i'm sorry to say that if you were my son I would not be able to insure you to drive the crossfire at all. This is not looking good - anyway goood luck, I hope you find a way.

Cheers

confused.com gave me the best price - I'm 25 and was with Admiral (just stayed with them after upgrading from my MGF), but just moved to the RAC after looking on confused.com and saved myself £800!

Just thought I'd let you know that I'm 27 with 4 years no claims discount and insured with Virgin for £653 with monthly installments costing no extra.
