I have always wanted to have double since I’ve bought my xf 10 years ago. So I have decided to take action 4 years ago and contacted local car audio shop and asked them if they can do a custom job from fiberglass so I could fit double din radio. My concern was to keep the oem look and have the kit. They have told me they could do so we had a deal. However they messed up big as usually most of the shops do. So I ended up not even taking the kit. And left alone with the bezelless xf since they’ve broke the bezel to do custom job. I ordered new bezel online however I didn’t install it. After few years passed I changed my job and open firm focused on car accessories made from most of the plastics. And I have learned and done most of the precise manufacturing processes. Couple of months ago when I was driving my xf I decided to make the double din kit for myself and talked to my engineer to do it. It was a side project so time was not my main concern. We have started by 3d scanning the ashtray, transmission bezel, and the radio bezel to have the most precise model and the oem look. At this point I had the idea of producing it and selling it using additive manufacturing techniques. And name AOZ Parts has come up for other low volume production custom part projects for later on if there is interest on this field. Anyway we modelled bot front and the back according to the oem part, made the modifications to fit the bezel. We have send it to prototyping next week we I will have the parts and install it to see any changes to be made for best result. Here are some pictures about the project.







I will be selling the parts online probably on amazon or ebay or both. However I can give you guys better deal the online price if ordered as bulk since I could have better deal with the subcontractor which will produce the parts. If you are interested please let me know so we can have the list so I can talk to my subcontractor. I will update the list daily for you to see. I will upload the pictures of prototyped parts for you to see too. If you have any suggestions about changes to be made or other features to be added please let me know so I could talk to my engineer about it. As far as pricing matters it really depends on the demand. Demand would determine the manufacturing process. There are different manufacturing processes which will be determined by the volume. Basically if there are high volumes our price will be lower so I am working really hard to expand the volume and lower the price. I will be posting on all social media platforms and try to reach everyone who has need on the double din kit. Meanwhile maybe you can increase the volume by just telling your friends who has xf's.

 

I think another good avenue to get more people interested would be to hit up the SLK forums on MB forums and Benzworld? Just a thought

Really? I thought they liked looked pretty similar when I was in one, but it’s not like I measured the specs or anything. Learn something new everyday as they say

Anything Going On?

 

I was getting email updates but haven’t received anything since 12/11.

 

Its still on, I can promise you that. I’m a friend of his and talk with him frequently. Where he lives there was massive flooding in his area where cars had been caught in the flooding. Luckily he and his Crossfire didn’t. Others not so lucky. So he’s had to deal with that. People were trapped in their high rise condos for a couple of days. I’ve sent him a message about everyone wondering about the project. He will chime in soon once he gets my message.

when will the double din kit ship? I am trying to install my radio but the alignment cant be done with out the face plate.

the double din appeals to me from a visual aid in reversing as the XF doesn't have great rear vision.

Everything is in testing. I talked with him yesterday. After the lunar new year is when this is supposed to be finished with testing. Customs played a major part in its delay as well. I promise though this will happen. As I said in another post I’ve seen all the parts and what’s going on. We’ll all have an opportunity to buy a double din whenever we want. He’s not in here as much. Mostly Facebook, so I’ll let Ali know to check in over here and let everyone know the low down.
