That would be a good spot, I have not started on it yet - too cold, maybe tomorrow.
I think I will try to get the wire down and under the carpet instead of taking it through the fuse area. I'll see how much cable there is to play with.
Running it through the fuse panel door you have to be careful otherwise it may interfere with dropping the lower dash which takes the light switch with it. So you have to be careful that it goes over everything and not through something that comes down with the panel, the silver brace visible through the fuse door is one to avoid.

 

I knew that the Nav and non Nav aerial connections were different in 2009 when I swapped the non Nav in my NA to a Nav unit. I guess that was before you got a Crossfire, my post on the Nav installation is on here as well. I saw that I had that one part already when I took the Nav unit out of the SRT the other day. My Nav unit also has the four CD player in the trunk, so that goes as well ....... out with old and in with the new.

I now have three radios for the car and the old CD unit. I really want a Nav radio but I guess the Garmin or Magellan units will have to do for now.

I ran mine from head unit to passengers side under the cabin filter cover and behind door seal tucked behind passenger a pillar and used a flexible hotel room key card tucked between windshield and headliner over to rear view mirror, but started at mic by mirror and worked my toward head unit.

 

I have received my VW01B and it does not have the two pink wires, a blue wire, not blue/white is installed in A5 but the blue wire has a jumper wire in that pin position as well toA3 which goes to an empty pin in the car harness. I just have to switch red and yellow (or not) and tape of the orange wire.
I am just pointing out that all these adapters are not the same.
I am on my way.

Added Note
In the end I removed wires from the plugs and adapters that were not going to used with a paper clip, much neater.

 

I wanted to add another comment on this install that I appreciate:

One of the benefits of wiring the HU this way versus bypassing the factory amp, is that you retain the speed sensitive volume adjustment. (BCM/Antilock controller is wired to amp at 3B).

I get noticeable step boosts to the sound at certain speeds. Especially ~70mph.

 

I added the radio, it sounds OK but the front really shows the difference between the flat face of the radio and the 'spine' that goes through the inside of the car. My fascia has a couple of chips in it and they show too much.
Also the radio sits to far in at the top as it seems not to fit well in the liner, or the weight at the back of the radio pulls it down. I guess it could be shimmed. I'll have to read the instructions as well, not something I ever do.
I'm thinking of going back to the OEM Nav radio.

Not sure I really get your concern since the Becker is also flat faced?
Having experienced the modern amenities, I'd never go backwards.

 

I just do not like the way it looks right now. See how it is tilted backward and seems too far in.

Mine has a little tilt as well. But I think you could move the metal frame forward to make it more flush. It just wasn't a big enough concern for me to bother trying.

 

Dave, I want first dibs if you decide to go back and want to unload the Kenwood.
I'd kinda like to have BT, and my old Alpine don't.

 

I doubt I would sell it as I keep all the parts I replace. I have three radios for it now, OEM, OEM Nav and now this one.
You could say I'm a hoarder.

 

Dave, I think it looks good. I think a little shim work is needed to remove the "tilt" and alignment issues. You could also place thin automotive piping tape (silver or light grey) to create a line down the center of the metal frame to give it the ribbed illusion of the dashboard "spine". Or you can bend the frame ever so slightly to give it a soft "spine"

It look terrific and matches well with the interior tho

 

I added the shim and it looks better now. What looks like chips in the silver paint under the radio in the photo was actually that black goo of the harness. That really made me upset, I felt the the spots were raised and not sunken, it came off easily when rubbed. I also installed the mike, I ran th wire down the A pillar, through the hole under the a pillar trim, ran it high up under the dash tying it to wires etc and through to the area behind the radio.
I have not put it all together yet as I am waiting for a dash cam to come from China. I will hard wire it in, running the wire under the windshield trim to the a A pillar, down it,through the A pillar hole and hard wire it to the headlight switch to a wire that becomes live when the day timer running lights come on.
I am doing the wires for the flashing HMBL at the moment.

I pit my mic above rear view mirror for nice inconspicuous

 

I was going to do that but I have a dash cam cable that has to go under the trim and I did not want to have no room for it.

Ran my mic.wire up passenger side.
Could run the cam cable up drivers side or vise versa, if u have a question about cable.room.

 

I thought the mike was better of on the A pillar trim and the wire for the dash cam will go to the under hood fuse box. The mike wire drops through the hole in the dash by the A pillar, more direct and neater than the other route I think.

 

Ya I ran mine up the a pillar then tucked the wire above the headliner over to the rear view mirror.
Only visably wire is very short piece from headliner to mic.
