Hello Everybody

so I decided to change the infinity radio, to be able to dock the iphone directly in the car radio ! and enjoy music and mapquest gps guidance in the same time !!!

DUAL is the only brand I found doing that, a I got a very good price for it 50% off at Walmart, got it for $50 +tax... cheap !
The car radio looks plastic, but sounded nice enough to me in the store.

Removing the infinity was easy, with 2 nail polisher because I did not have the special tool

after I had to order the special METRA 70-9401 unit for connect with the car harness and antenna radio
(12 $ for both on ebay ...instead for $20 each in car stores...)

Connected everything, secured with tape for the red/yellow/black wires

connected to the harness in the car : radio goes on / off properly, functions seem to work, ipod dock connect the iphone (3Gs) and charge it... but not one sound, not even a noise, in the speakers ????????

that is super disappointing....

a few questions, may you help me to answer :

is the infinity have a preamp somewhere else in the car (I have a XF roadster from 2005) ?

do I need a pre amp / amp with this radio (does not make sense to me but...)

anything else I missed, misunderstood, misunderestimated ????

Is the blue wire connected? Aside from that, on mine I had to clip the mute wire on the car side wiring harness. It was never a functioning item on our car anyway.

 

No you are right I did not connected the blue wire, beacuse they said 'powered antenna' and I do not have one... but the blue wire is making a loop in the harness ?
on the other side, by the radio, the blue is not connected also... do I connect them together ???

also what color is the mute wire on the car side ???

 

Ok, there should be a wire that turns on the amp. Might be another color. And I can remember thge mute wire. But I believe it's called out is some posts concerning stereos. You'll have to do a search on it.

I checked also the car harness and there is not even more 1 pair of speakers... so It will be probably the wire to the amp, and the amp will give sound to every speakers... do you know where is the amp itself ?

OK there is something I really DON'T get...

on the factory harness (the one coming from the car itself)
there are 2 sockets "A and B", who matched the connections I have to the radio...

on A I only have 5 connectors plugged-in (X = nothing)
1- X
2- X
3- X
4- RED (+)
5- BLUE (electric antenna ?)
6- GREY/BLACK ?
7- ORANGE ?
8- BROWN (ground)

on B I have only 4 connectors plugged in
1- X
2- YELLOW
3- YELLOW / GREY
4- BLUE
5- BLUE / GREY
6- X
7- X
8- X

I had read almost all post on the forum about "replacing factory radio"
and check this auto diagram for audio

and so far what I understand is the Infinity have a preamp somewhere else
and the wires on B 2/3 and 4/5 are just to go from the car radio to the pre-AMP, not the speakers themselves... but unfortunately I'm not a tech...

but my connectors do not match the A socket at all ??? mine is a 2005, maybe they changed something because the post seems to be in 2004 ????



So on the back of my new car radio, I do have an OUT to connect an AMP (by cinch 3.5 red / white)
maybe it is the way to go the car pre AMP, and not try to connect the output wire for speakers directly coming from the car radio (by the way the rear ones do no exist)

Check and make sure the unit is grounded correctly because sometime units arent grounded correctly and draw off of the antenna wire for the ground and make sure the AMP wire/power antenna is hooked up correctly..did you use butt style connectors or crimp caps? because sometime if butt connectorss are crimped too hard they cut the wire and therefore there isn't a connection

 

The rear inputs for the stock system are fed through the front channels..btw.
