Kenwood Install/OEM Amp...Need Help Please.
Hi All,
I have purchased a Kenwood KVT-819DVD for my '05 Roadster. I have read through these posts and picked up some great information, but I have a couple of "gaps". The Kenwood has 5v pre-outs, which seems to be close to the OEM HU voltage if I can believe what I have read here. I want to use the OEM amp and speakers, but I want to use the front pre-out for the door speakers and the sub pre-out for the subwoofers. Thanks to the resources available here, I know that the HU's 2 channel outputs split somewhere before the black "Power Amplifier A" connector, to provide 4 channel inputs for the amp. Unfortunately, it appears that they aren't uniquely color-coded, making it difficult to determine, for example, which wire supplies the right + signal to the door speaker and which to the sub.
I have attached a diagram with comments. No offense, but a difinitive, absolute answer would help me and anyone else trying to install an aftermarket unit in thier Crossfire, so if you know which pin = which input, please repond.
Thanks for the help!

The wiring chart is correct. Not sure how you're confused.
Best thing to do is to get a harness connector to put on the head unit and just read the color codes there.
You will find the front and rear leads and can simply run your own rear leads down to where you need them.
There's a write-up on my site that shows how I did mine (I didn't bother connecting the rear leads coming out of the head unit but it was clear to me which ones they were.

Re: Kenwood Install/OEM Amp...Need Help Please.
Thanks for responding ppro, but your write up doesn't really answer my question. If I'm not mistaken, you are either using only front outputs (1 right, 1 left) from your HU or you have replaced your amp. I am wanting to use front and sub line-outs from my new HU connected to the OEM amp, allowing me to control the rear OEM subs independantly of the door speakers. Because, according to the schematic, the Rt/Lt out is split to allow separate Front and Rear inputs at the OEM amp, I just need to know what the 8 connectors, shown boxed on the attached diagram, lead to. (Right Door Speakers+, Rt. Sub -, etc.) Thanks again.
Re: Kenwood Install/OEM Amp...Need Help Please.
What I was trying to say is that you use the color codes of the wires coming out of the head unit, which you attach to a harness plug.
(from my write up)
Since you will know from your head unit which wires go to which speakers (and probably have a separate sub-out), you can then look at the pins on the harness connector to determine which is which. For example, using my install as an example, I know that
- the gray lead is the Right-Front positive lead. (Socket B, pin 3)
- the gray/black lead is the Right-Front negative lead. (Socket B, pin 4)
(from my write up)
So knowing the Socket/Pin, we next refer to the socket in the car and find the number of the pin that Socket B, pin three connects and what color that wire is. Then we look it up (the pin numbers are on the radio block...) on the drawing below (which you provided as well)
Then you have to determine by looking at the wires, where they go on the amp, and you have to figure out which pins on the amp (choice of two for each channel left and right) is the rear connection. You can get or make a connector for the amp with all the wires and use it as a test harness to ID the channels. Or you can search the forum deeply to see if anyone has figured it out already (I think they have - https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...hlight=amp+pin (output side of factory amp)
https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...hlight=amp+pin (input side of factory amp and other good stuff, especially the second page where one post goes into some points about the rear subs)
).
My plan is to simply leave the factory subs in place and run separate sub leads to another amp and subs)
P.S. Disregard the big bold red circles - they're from a different question.

Re: Kenwood Install/OEM Amp...Need Help Please.
Thanks again ppro. This kind of confirms what I suspected, that I will have to trace the wires myself. Everyone seems to be asking the right questions,(see ssl92677's post at https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...hlight=amp+pin ), but everyone stops short at the answer. One of the last posts in this thread states "Am I to assume no one has yet to figure out ssl92677's question as to which of the pins 7 or 10 and 6 or 9 on the ampifier input is for the front or the back speakers?" It looks like this is a correct assumption!
Thanks for the help ppro.

OK...
Factory amp is in the passenger footwell... At the amp, the wires are twisted into pairs (as far as I remember) for each speaker...
What you can do, is solder on female RCA ends on the amplifier side, and run two pairs of RCA's from your new deck to the OEM amp... Then you can test the pairs... Another way to test the wires AFTER you cut them at the amp, turn the deck on so the OEM amp is on, and touch each bare wire on the amp side... this way you will hear a little hummmmmm or pop from whichever speakers' relative input you are touching...
Hope that helps...

Good information. I dropped my car off at my local audio shop and explained what I want. I asked him to note which connections are which. I he does, I promise that I will post this information here. If he doesn't, we may never know! Thanks for your responses.

Re: Kenwood Install/OEM Amp...Need Help Please.
No, although the installer connected the unit correctly, I'm afraid that he did not note which pins at the amp connector correspond to which speaker connections. As I asked, he connected the front pre-outs to the door speakers and the subs pre-outs to the subs. the system sound really great with the factory amp and speakers, and it's nice to have some control of the sub levels. I also had the Kenwood KNA-G510 Garmin GPS Nav, KCA-BT200 Bluetooth, CCD-2000 back-up camera, KCA-iP300v iPod connection and the XM receiver unit connected. The main audio receiver unit fit under the passenger's seat and the rest of the components fit next to the factory amp, under the passenger floor. While the sound quality is excellent and the volume sufficient, it doesn't seem to have quite the volume as the factory unit. The pre-outs on this unit are 5v, so maybe the factory HU is a bit higher voltage than I've read on this forum. I think the next step will be another amp and some speakers. The installer said that there were some nice Boston Acoustics that would fit right in. And yes, the speed sensitive volume does seem to work with new HU.
The only thing that I'm not crazy about is the convoluted menu system that Kenwood uses. I have a Pioneer AVH-P7600DVD in my Intrepid that has a logical, easy to use menu system, but I went with the Kenwood for the Garmin hard-drive based navigation. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the system. Sorry I didn't get the answer to the elusive amp connection question! Thanks again for everyone's input.
