I found when detailing the engine compartment that my cowl cover is CRACKED! When Karrmann installed it, the cable bundle under it in the center was not flat enough and when they tightened the screws, it put a bit of curse on it. Over 3 years time, the PVC gave up and cracked about 6" long from one of the center screws.
Under warranty, and at the same time, they will replace the alarm with the new one. Panic button doesn't work. Sounds like it's under water when the siren is forced.
AND the TPMS sensors I bought on eBay have to be reset.
All next weekend, hopefully after I get my new rotors installed.

It's nice to be on good terms with a dealer that has good/trustworthy xFire techs!

Wow! What a COLLOSSAL pain in the a$$ that thing was to change out!!!

$70 for the part and $40 for the security torx set I had to buy to put it on. Not to mention the retarded bolt that held the device in place. Why would they weld the nut in place? If anything, weld the bolt in place, since you can hardly get at the bolt without removing your intake! Ugh. I was going to take photos and document the process for the forum, but I got so pissed I forgot the camera. Oh well. I would think it would be worth the $40 to pay someone to swap it out for you.

But, at least it is done AND I have beeps now. Woohoo!!

New cowl grille and an alarm that lets me know its working...priceless.

And they reset the TPMS sensors for my new tires/rims.

I'm happy.

Tomorrow-I install my new rotors.

12mm to remove nuts off of wipers

T20 torx bit to remove the crowl

4” gear puller from pep boys $24.00 to remove wiper arms

14mm to remove bolt of alarm housing from car.

TX30 security bit to remove siren from housing.

Lessons learned: The bolt to remove the siren housing is pictured below with the socket wrench with the red handle. It is on the exterior of the crowl.

#1 Remove wiper arms using 12mm socket and gear puller.

#2 Remove crowl using a T20 torx (star bit). 7 torx screws.

#3 Remove the siren housing from the car first.

#4 Remove siren from housing using the TX30 security bit.

#5 Turn on car to deactivate alarm. (I blew out my ear drums)

#6 Carefully remove wire from siren do not use a screw driver. I did and broke a retention clip.

#7 Plug in new siren and shut off car to avoid a second degree burn to your elbow.

I was worried about attaching the wiper arms but they just pop on and tighten up with the 12mm nut. No sweat, however you must use a gear puller to remove them! Do not try to just pull them off it won’t work.

All in all it took about an hour with the right tools and I like the tone. I will try and figure out a way to post the tone here soon.

Do you have a name brand, or price info on the TX30 security bit? Your information has help a lot, and thanks for posting it as well.

It sounds expensive and complicated. Why not just do my simple mod for less than $5.00?

It isn't a T30, it's a T40!!

Be absolutely sure that it's the tamper-proof version with the hole in the torx tip, or it won't do you any good.

I bought mine as a part of a set of security torx bit/sockets from Sears. They're Craftsman, and the set was $40:

Or you can order just the T40 bit from Sears for $4:
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00992376000P

Here's a nice set of security/tamper-proof bits, including the T40 for only $15 (wish Sears would have had this in stock!):

And, by the way, there's no R in cowl.

I already did that, and I didn't really like the results. Plus this way it's factory, and covered by warranty.

Time to put the noise to rest.

Will someone who has installed the new alarm please say which one of these it sounds most similar to?

Once again, I'll attach a link to the instructions on installing the Radio Shack tone buzzer that gives results that are about the same for less than 5 bucks.

I've been away from the forums for a while, so I have not seen the questions building up. Unfortunatly, when I installed the siren, i did not have the time to take pictures of the process. They made the siren dificult to remove because it is a SECURITY device. if it was easily accessible, it would be useless because it could more easily be disabled.

As for the wiper removal, it is actually very easy. After unbolting the 12mm, use a set of adjustable pliers to remove the wiper. put the fixed end upward and underneeth the wiper arm, and adjust the plier to close the moveable jaw on the bolt. Give it a squeeze and it should come loose. Remember where the wiper was positioned before you remove it because there are no indicators for the correct position of the wiper.

Another confirmation: To fix the lack of an alarm beep, replace with the other siren. Does anyone else think it sounds like the ignition beep, only outside?
