No fob but a key that will work locksmith has been found!
I bought a 2005 Roadster 3 weeks ago, but it only had one key enclosed within a sketchy, delicate fob that is even missing the alarm button. Searched high and low for a new one, but they have been on back order since October 2019 and the dealer said he thought it had been discontinued. Mercedes dealer said Sucks to be you, we are too good to do anything for a Chrysler, we regret that alliance. Bought one from keylessremotes.com - DO NOT BUY ONE HERE! They say it's original guts in a new case, and maybe it is. They say take it to a locksmith who can program it - 2 locksmiths AND the dealer later - no go. It would not start my new baby. I can return it, and I will, but with a restock fee of 30% = $80 bucks lost. Both the dealer and locksmiths took pity on me and didn't charge.
My husband said we were not going to risk having a beautiful lawn ornament if something happened to the key, so as soon as we got the title she was on the market.
Desperation set in.
So, I was able to locate The Key Guy in Richmond, VA, just a short drive from me, who had been recommended by 2 local locksmiths And a dealer. We met in a parking lot and inside his van was the magic I needed - all the tools to make a new key. Mind you, this is just a key, not a fob but between being faced with no fob or no new shiny baby I could care less about a fob.
He took the Immobilizer out from behind the dash, removed the chip, and programmed a chip in a Sprinter key with it. IT WORKS!! Took the guy less than an hour to do this. I gladly paid him his $500, and my husband took me out to dinner to celebrate. Seriously, it was that big a deal.
The good news is that he will also do this by mail for those who live too far away to meet him. He said the Immobilizer, or even just the chip if you know how to solder it back on, can be mailed to him and he can provide a new key that WORKS. He will charge $500 for this service, too. Better news is that if you need another key later he has all of the Immobilizer info saved in his database and will provide a new one for $125. I'll be doing that in a few months since finding someone who could do this was like walking through hell and you can't have too many keys.
Personally, I was not comfortable sending that vital component and only key all the way to Oregon to SOS, plus we would have had to remove the Immobilizer ourselves. My husband can do most anything on cars, but even he said Nah, not gonna. The quote I got from SOS was a lot cheaper than this guy, but again, shipping to Oregon.
So, with all of that in mind, I wanted to let my Crossfire friends know about this option. You can contact him to meet anywhere in the Richmond VA area for in person service.

Re: No fob but a key that will work locksmith has been found!
I find it amazing that a guy can clone an RFID chip in his van by taking the SKREEM out of your car. This is truly surprising.
Based on your testimony, I am making this a "sticky" thread. Anyone else who uses this guy and has a good experience, please post in this thread!
Since this is NOT a Roadster specific topic, I am moving this to "All Crossfires".

I am glad to be of help. These are amazing little cars, and the thought of a key keeping one off of the road is simply devastating.
I got wave from a Corvette yesterday. In case you didn't know, there's a "Corvette Club" where if a Corvette passes another they wave. My husband has a C5 convertible, and we get a laugh every time that happens. Evidently, the Crossfire falls under that umbrella, garnering respect from even the exclusive Corvette community.

Just curious, why pay $500.00 to have a key made when SOS Diagnostics will do it for $250.00 and all you have to do is send them your original key (no screem needed for a spare key)? I admit the one risk is the original key getting lost in the mail but this is the reason I insured mine for $500.00. No need to take your dash apart.

I sent my only working key fob to SOS to get another key fob cloned. You don't gave to send the Skreem along with the fob if your car starts with your key. You only have to send the Skreem if your fob does not start the car. I should hear back from them today
regarding payment and return shipment. Cost for another working fob is$250.

Glad that this topic is getting more attention, now, but this is not quite NEW news. Sometime over the last several years enough has been hacked or leaked to enable independent locksmiths to pull info from the SKREEM (Chrysler's name for the immobilizer, other makers have other names) to make a new key (chip) to satisfy the immobilizer function.
I have shared links to PayLess Car Keys Corp. a few times over on FB pages, I do NOT have personal experience to verify, but this shop in Staten Island, NY, has fine reviews on FB, on eBay, and on the website to their own brick-and-mortar store (in Staten Island). Oh, and a competitive price, too.
Check out https://www.ebay.com/itm/CHRYSLER-CR...E/173596771849
Or for additional options: https://paylesscarkeys.com/index.php...scription=true
Also see: https://www.facebook.com/cheapcarkeys
Alex (the locksmith there, owner?) also has a YouTube channel, other evidence of legitimacy.
So all is not lost, technology progresses.

Re: No fob but a key that will work locksmith has been found!
SOS made me a key, with no fob, that will manually unlock the doors, and start the car...total cost, plus shipping $65.00. I did need to send them both working keys and fobs. they said if I wanted a new fob it would be $250.00
o remotely work the doors, it would be $250.

Re: No fob but a key that will work locksmith has been found!
HELP!!!!!! I have a 05 Crossfire. I went up north for 6 weeks and instead of putting the keys on the key hook right inside the door, I decided to hide it out of site in case someone broke in while I was gone and decided to steal my baby car. So, guess what??!! I hid it so good, I can't find it and it was the only set of keys I have. Unbelievable. I have called 2 Chrysler dealers, a locksmith, and my mechanic for help. I was quoted over $700 for a key by the 2 dealers and the locksmith said he doesn't have the equipment to make it. any suggestions???
Re: No fob but a key that will work locksmith has been found!
As per the above post, SOS Diagnostics can make you another however if you don't have a key to duplicate I believe you may have to send them some other parts. Give them a call. You can also try calling Needswings and see what they say. If this had been 6 months ago you would have been SOL.
Re: No fob but a key that will work locksmith has been found!
Thanks for the quick response. I believe I have found a locksmith to make the key and a fob as well. I got the name from this site. It is Payless Car Keys Corp. out of New York. My mechanic has to send the immobilizer module as well as the driver door lock. Has anyone actually used this guy before. I spoke to him on the phone, but his site has no reviews. My mechanic also called and spoke to him and seems pretty sure he checks out OK.

Re: No fob but a key that will work locksmith has been found!
In the right hands nothing should be required to be sent. Possibly in some cases the key will be cloned with the one you send, I would not want to send all my keys, just imagine if they were lost.
Re: No fob but a key that will work locksmith has been found!
Isn't the reason the driver's door lock is being sent because they no longer have a key at all? That they lost it. Isn't it less work to just send the glovebox lock instead?
