Default Front wheel bearings - need help!

Hi Team!

I felt like my car has been kind of off lately, pulling to one side and making a strange noise, coming from the tires hear and there. Took it into the shop and they found I needed an alignment and also that the front wheel bearings were worn out. They said that when they moved the wheels to a certain position and shook on kt, it would wobble pretty good causing the noise I kept hearing.
They told me tonight that it was too late to go o parts search as all their supplier sources were already out and one person he spoke to told him "the left bearing is bigger than the right bearing" or the other way around which sounded very odd to him. He said first thing in the morning he would do research on the right parts.

Can you guys she'd some light on this? What are the parts and what should they cost? Are they identical with the SLK 320 or were different parts used here?

Anything I should know or the mechanism is should know?

I appreciate all your help.
Merry Christmas

Nick

It is doubtful the right and left wheel bearings are different sizes. What he probably meant is that the inside (inboard) bearing is usually always bigger than the outside (outboard) bearing.

Inner and outer bearings are different sizes, but both hubs are the same, had to be what he meant, if he did mean left and right hub where different, I would say thank you and leave that shop and never return.
Bearings when the run dry and wear out give a whining sound, usually a wobble is upper or lower ball joints or tie rods.
How many miles on your car?
Bearings and races and seals are cheap local napa probably has them in stock. Around $20 a side.
A shop should not charge much, as it does not take that long to do, they will have a big press and a torch.

They are easy to put in if you know how to work magic with a freezer and a oven to use temperature to shrink and expand the metals.
A driver makes things alittle easier but I use sockets or piece of oak.
Adjusting tension on bearings is easy.
Biggest problem with bearings is people not knowing how to properly pack a bearing, I hand pack only, or they use the wrong grease, yes a huge difference, all purpose grease will not work, does not take the Temps and will liquify.

Thanks for all replies here. I have just a little over 100K on the car now. He said there was a lot of play when holding on to the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock or 6 and 12 for example and moving the wheel.
If you guys think it's not the bearings maybe It is the tie rod and ball joints? I have me awesome experience with this shop in the last. Have always treated me and friends well and they work on mercedes and other Crossfirestuff as well.

Well since the Crossfire is a RWD car the front wheel bearing are usually just a matter of pulling the brake hub and replacing. See the section that starts on page 2-23 of the '05 service manual .pdf.

I ordered the MB original grease on line as well as the bearings. I also got a 12 ton press from HarborFreight, for the price, it will pay for itself.
