Default Replacement Key Fob

Hi All,

2005 Crossfire. Had 2 key fobs. 1 gets stolen off the beach (along with other goodies) so am down to 1. Any thoughts on best approach to getting a replacement without going through dealer?

Off topic....same question for wife's 2015 Chevy Malibu.

Thanks.

Last time I make copy key fob in my locksmith.
This was the cheapest option. Locksmith make only "JMA" key shaft without immobilizer.
I make myself aluminium handle.
Normaly you can not start engine this key becouse it is without immobilizer bone. But this is no problem, you can cheat immobilizer and everything will be works ok.
In my city cheapest price for make only key shaft for MB/Crossfire is about $25.
In MB/Chrysler dealer oryginal key with immobilize bone and remote control is radicilus about $380.

If you don't have the "imobilizer" how do you get the car to start with just the cut key? The SKREEM needs the RFID chip to "OK" the start.

We have 2 options
1. if you have oryginal key with chip. Price? $0
2. if you have not any chip. Price about $40

I move chip to ignition ring and now I can use my new key... simple it is brilliant
If you not have chip is little problem becouse you must buy immobilizer emulator.

I think what he is saying is he took the chip in the key fob and "mounted" it in the ring around the key slot. Thereby getting by with just a key blank, if you will.

Anyone wanna chime in on this being a viable solution to a second key ?

Yes and no, removes one of the theft features of the car. I guess that is better than scotch taping it temporally to the new ignition key, until you get new Fobs ordered.

I had 2 factory keys made at SOS. They also had the SKREEM and ECM for diagnostics at the time because of starting problems. SOS should be able to cut the key for you and then tell you the procedure to program the key to you SKREEM / ECM without removal. This will take some time if you are not in the Portland area because you would need to ship them your key. Cost was $220 for single key with remote door lock. Without the remote it is $75. For $75 it will open the door and start the car.

Dealer at the time said it takes them 2 weeks to get a key cut and cot $300+.

Needswings sells the fob - key cut and chip programmed for vehicle, $150 and received in less than a week. It takes 10 seconds to pair with vehicle and all the fob buttons work as usual. All they need is your VIN, proof of ownership (I.e, copy of title or registration and drivers license).

I suspect that SOS had the key made at the approved facility and charged a markup on top of the cost to them.

This might be a little late, however, I ordered one about four years ago from remotesandkeys.com - It was very easy. I paid $159, but I see that they are running $199 now. Once you order, you have to send them a copy of the registration with VIN, copy of your license, address & name must match registration and then a photo of the odometer showing the current miles. That's it. They will have the key cut specific to the VIN number provided and once you get the remote, programming is EASY! Can be programmed in less than 2 minutes Seriously, very easy!

Hope this helps for anyone still looking for a replacement key.
