Default Replaced broken front spring.

Ok, so I bought a 2004 xfire. She failed inspection for a broken front left coil spring. I purchased a spring set that fit a 2003 Mecedes SLK 320 (R170). I also bought a spring compressor for various Mercedes models. The front spring is the 14 inch spring. On other posts about this subject, part number 05102297aa was for the rear springs but referenced for the front.

So, in order to get the spring out after compression, you have to disconnect the upper shock bolt, upper ball joint, and sway bar end. A second jack helps out to relieve tension on the lower A frame.

Reinstall hardware removed then uncompress spring. Be aware the compression tool gets stuck and some hammering may be necessary.

There it is, spring replacement after 3 hours.

Where, oh where did you find the spring(s) I have spent the better part of the day trying to find front coil springs for my 2005 (part number 05135480AA).

I have spoken with my local auto parts stores (about 4 or 5 of them), with my local Chrysler dealer (who said I had to speak with Mercedes); I called Mercedes who said I should speak with Chrysler corporate Round and round.

I would prefer NOT to use a lowering kit as Michigan has a road commission policy of installing pot holes as frequently as possible!

Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Litebearer, I live in Germany and ordered the springs from German ebay. I did not find the part number you listed either. Try pn 2023211504, this is for 03 slk (r170). Search eBay for the slk SPRINGS. The spring height is 366mm which is 14 inches. Good luck.
