Default Portable Jump Start

I was at the DC Auto Show last January and there was a guy selling portable jump start kits. Neat little lithium battery unit that he said could start a car 8 times without recharging. I bought one and put it in the trunk of my Crossfire.

Yesterday I went out to start my Crossfire, and totally dead battery. No panel lights, nothing. I put a meter across the battery and it showed 1.1 volts.

Okay, so I brought out my jump starter, hooked it to the battery and got in the car. Panel lights. Turned the key and the starter turned the engine over nicely, but no start. I guess our car needs a lot of amps to get it started.

Went out a bought a new battery and problem solved.

As soon as it started up I noticed the dome light was on. Now I know why the battery was dead. I had changed oil two days ago and turned the dome light on so that I could read my manual on resetting the FSS.

Back in the day we did not have to carry anything like this around, if we had a dodgy battery we parked on a hill.

Considering what it takes to start the Crossfire, I am not sure that would work. Anyone ever have success with this with our Crossfire?

I grew up on farm in the midwest, we had a 40 something 2 1/2 ton GMC grain truck. 6 volt never would start. Always backed it up the barn bank to park it. Oh, and it ran on LP.

Even if you had a straight drive if the battery was completely dead it would not help you to park on a hill you would need battery power to run the electronics and the fuel pump.

Back in the day we did not have electronic stuff like today, my post never referred to a Crossfire or any other modern car.

Somewhere on here someone says they bump started a manual Xfire. Who knows how much juice he had in the battery.

Actually I was answering no one in particular, just everyone in general.

I have done it on my 6sp Crossfire, BUT it did have a fully charged battery. As for the OP's issue, might not have needed to buy a battery since the cause was a domelight on, not a charging issue.
Back in the 1980s I drove my Dodge van for months with an effectively dead battery, I could even park on the level and push it can catch it in 2nd. As long as it would power the alternator field coil, once everything spun over, it would fire.
