Default How many

I can't help but wonder how many Crossfires are left in the world today. They say the normal attrition rate it 3-5% per year. With the high cost of repairs I tend to think closer to the higher rate. the big salvation is many of our cars are not daily drivers and that tends to reduce the rate. In the early years there seemed to be quite a few totaled however I suspect some of them were totaled to get out of lease and purchase payments for people that bought them at full sticker price and would up upside down on values. Even today the parts are worth more then the vehicle in most situations. I would guess about 1/3 of our beautiful vehicles are not longer around.

I was bored during lunch today so I took a stab at this.

Using the production numbers posted on the C-I-C-C-I forum:

Crossfire Technical Documentation

If you follow the link above to the C-I-C-C-I forum you can download the PDF file. I think it is in a public section of the forum...

I come up with 50508 crossfires (all sub models) left using a 4% attrition rate year over year. It's rough numbers but should be a good estimate.

I, too, would be interested in the figures. Also, I wonder how many originally came stateside and how many are left here as opposed to worldwide.

I guess I'm a little more optimistic about how many are still left. I don't think the "normal attrition rate" applies here, since the Crossfire isn't exactly the normal "daily driver". (Of course many are). But a much larger percentage of Crossfire's enjoy "Garage Queen" status, than the average family truckster's that those statistics are based on.
That being said, I really have no idea how many are actually out there.
Even though the Crossfire debuted nearly 13 years ago, I have yet to see one on the road with any "visible" rust, and I live in what is commonly recognized as the "Rust" belt of North America.

I reviewed the latest 2005 SRT6 database and found 71 known salvage title cars on the current collection of 2265 VIN#'s. That represents about 3.2% of the database to date, of course this maybe a distortion due to reporting of salvage vehicles.

The SRT6 portion may be lower, when compared to the other models, due to the rarity of the model, and more of these cars being garage queens.

Keep in mind, this would be a difficult number to find, since it was sold worldwide.

Just my 2 cents....

That is really close to the 3-5% rate though. One of my points was because of the high cost of repair and shortage of parts, Insurance Companies are much quicker to total a crossfire than say a Miata of the same vintage.
