Default A week of ownership and already a few modifications (PIC HEAVY)

Well I've loved the look and style of the Crossfire for a long time and decided I'd grab one and have a play.

Last Friday I picked up my 2004 coupe and got it home by 11pm and started to work on it first thing Saturday morning and when I say first thing I mean 6am, the first job I did was to clean up the headlights:

How they looked before I started:

When I clean up headlights I wet flat them and I start with 600 grit then 800 followed by 1000 then 1500 and finally 2000 leaving them looking like this:

At this point I then use a machine polisher and compound to polish them up like new:

When I got back home I drove in the garden and took a few pictures to show how it looked as I bought it.

So next was to get some bits ordered,

lowering springs
wheel spacers
Hid kit
Various LED bulbs

So the springs and spacers turned up Wednesday so that evening I popped into work and whacked them on, loved fitting the springs on the crossfire there so simple and only took 25 mins to swap out all four corners using the correct spring tool made for the Merc's I also rolled my rear arches to allow me to use my 25mm hubcentric spacers.

Here's a few bad pics as it was dark:

Lowered without the spacers:

and with the spacers fitted:

DSC_0099_zpsbbqr8ozf.jpg

Today the HID kit and LED bulbs turned up so popped them in as well as a few other little light modifications.

While I was messing about with bulbs I took the orange indicator bulbs out and gave them a dusting with silver spray to rid the orange look and they still work perfectly also did the rears.

Before :

after:

DSC_0108_zps0lo2quyk.jpg

next was to fit the HID kit and LED side light bulbs and LED number plate bulbs (left changed Right still stock):

DSC_0116_zps4rohrtq9.jpg

Ive also swapped out the fog light bulbs for LED's and then re wired them as DRL's so there on when the ignition is on:

Few more changes I'll be making this week from blacking the grill and side fins and windscreen surround and I may change the wheels but I'm undecided with deep dish or deep concave

I wouldn't change wheels, those look good. Not stock, what brand are they?

I do like the wheels that have been fitted but at some point the diamond cut lips have been rattle caned over in silver probably due to corrosion creping in after curbing them and there repair isn't as good as I'd like so that leaves me with the option of either having them sandblaster and re finished or buy a new set.

These are the wheels I was considering both sets are staggered 8.5 x 19 et 35 front and 9.5 x 19 et 38 rear so they will sit the same as my front currently do and the rears will stick out 1mm further.

deep dish

deep concave

As for the wheels currently on the car they have Brabus centre caps but there definitely not Brabus as there stamped on the back Made In Taiwan so I'm afraid I have no idea who actually makes them.

Beautiful Car, I like all the wheels you've posted, I'd have a hard time choosing. To some people, these cars are a blank sheet of paper, just waiting to be personalized. To other's, they are perfect just the way they left the factory. The truth is, everybody usually winds up with exactly the car they've always dreamed about. Good luck with your new ride.

Thanks

The springs are a budget brand Apex and there SLK320 springs, I had emailed the company and they said they should work perfectly given the set up on the crossfire and I can confirm they do and it drives very well on them and sits perfectly IMO.

I noticed your wheels look like 19's all around. If you go with new wheels, would you go back to stock 18's in front and 19's in back?

I am considering it although I don't know if there is any advantage one way or the other?

Can you post a link to where you got them from? I am looking for some springs at the moment and yours sits very well.
