Key FOB swap issue...
Key FOB swap issue...
I'm a brand new user of the forums here as I just bought an '05 Roadster with 55k miles on it. My first CONVERTIBLE, my 1st Mercedes (LOL!) and my 3rd Chrysler. Selling price was $8300. Guy just wanted a down payment so he could buy one of those ugly Ford Thunderbirds. His loss, my gain.
Anyway, my key fobs are all mashed up but both still work and unlock & start the car just fine. I found this forum and followed some threads and figured I could swap out the guts into a new housing myself.
I am doing one at a time to avoid confusion & make sure at least one still works. Everything went great- the original didn't even have any glue to cut into. Guts went into the new case perfectly, little metal tab still intact. I closed it back up & went up to the garage to try it out. It unlocked the doors and I hopped in. I slid the key in & went to start up the car. It fired right up for about 3 seconds then shut off. I took the key completely out, slid it back in and got the same results.
Anyone have any ideas on my issue?
I did not try the 'press the unlock button twice before slipping the key in' so I plan on trying that tonight but if that doesn't work, does anyone have any other ideas?
Thank you!

Re: Key FOB swap issue...
Were you sure you put the little black transponder piece into the new shell. Check post #9, picture in the middle.

Travish- THANK YOU again. That was my issue. That black transponder piece blended into the original housing so well that I didn't notice it was supposed to come out.
Pioneer4x4- I live on the South Side of Pittsburgh. Mine is that deep red color. White was my original choice but I couldn't find any white convertibles so we settled on red. That car is SO MUCH FUN to drive. I have been driving pick-ups & suv's for a long time, I currently have an F150 XLT short bed 4dr and it's nice to sit up high in traffic but nothing beats just punching down the pedal on the Crossfire and watching the speedo light up... It's sad to see summer coming to an end, we didn't get to go anywhere fun yet with the car (I can't wait trying to cram a weekend's worth of clothes & stuff into that trunk!) but I have a nice garage to house it in till spring...
Thank you all for reading my post and for keeping these discussions lively.

Re: Key FOB swap issue...
Thanks Buff&SoFly... I actually bought my car from a guy in Irwin. He wanted to sell it through Hillview Motors but because it was 10 years old, they didn't want it. A salesman who he had bought a few cars off before agreed to list it for him on Craigslist. He listed it on a Sunday night and by Monday afternoon we were firming up details on the sale. My car was originally shipped to New Jersey but never sold there so they shipped it to Hillview where the original owner bought it with 3k miles. He drove it another 52k miles and decided to buy a friends' Ford Thunderbird and wouldn't have any room in his garage for 2 drop tops. He was nice enough to give me the CarFax with all the details.
Anyway- Thanks for the nice 'welcome' and I'll be seeing you around. If there ever is a 'Crossfire Meet-up' definitely let me know...
