Is the Crossfire ever really a "HOT" car?
Is the Crossfire ever really a "HOT" car?
Thanks to another Thread about locking up the XF Roadster, it got me thinking. How often do Crossfire's get stolen?
I mean, I know they get broken into, and vandalized like any other car. But does anybody know of, or remember any getting stolen?
I remember seeing photos of a Coupe, and Roadster that were completely incinerated, and some people "suggested" they were the result of a theft. But I thought it was far more likely they were destroyed buy seat heaters gone wrong.
Personally, I don't think our cars are really much of a high theft item. After all, even though parts are rare, I certainly wouldn't worry about any Crossfire owner striping my car for parts. Even most salvage yards don't want to be bothered with them. Just not that big of a market for parts.

Re: Is the Crossfire ever really a "HOT" car?
I always get a kick out of reading the carjacking articles where the crooks give up because they can't drive a stick.
Since most cars are stolen for joyride or strip for parts, and like you said, no high demand for parts, plus the excellent Mercedes Benz security systems that are so hard to defeat, you can't even get them to work with your actual key sometimes, I don't think they get stolen that often.

To be a "hot" car ripe for multiple thefts it must be first, popular, second vanilla so it does not stick out.
And APB on a white Celica would have cops cross-eyed looking at possible vehicles on the road. If you said a Safire blue crossfire, they likely know where both of them are in the city.
Crossfire body parts are very expensive so, for that purpose, they might be desirable. But it is still risky to try and hide Crossie parts in a bone yard of front clips and fenders.
I cannot remember ever hearing of a stolen one.
