Default FSS "Schedule B" Reset Problem (Chimes, but does not reset)

Hello,
I have seen (and read) the many, many posts on resetting the FSS. I have also watched a youtube video, read the owner's manual, read the service manual - and read threads from Mercedes Forums.

I cannot get that darn thing to reset! I follow the procedure, it will chime at about the 10 second mark as stated, but the service mileage counter never resets. Currently it is sitting at -33800, so I assume the previous owner had no luck resetting it either.

My question is; if it passes a certain threshold (like 15,000 miles) - does it lock it out from the user interface reset and require the DRB 3 to complete a reset? Or should this procedure work every time regardless of miles?

Thank you for your patience and time!
Ryan

I found the double wrench more challenging to reset than the single wrench. If I recall correctly I needed to move through the procedure very quickly, without delay to get it to work. Sorry can't comment on a "threshold lock out". Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply Bluecoupe. I will keep trying, maybe my timing is just off.

Another question - I found on the Mercedes site that it mattered if the door was open or not (door had to be closed). Nothing was mentioned (that I can find) in the owner's manual regarding this, I have tried it both ways without success. Do I have to hold the brake or something too? I am not exaggerating that I have made it chime at least 20 times with probably 100 tries over the last month.

Ahh well, thank you for the input. I will update if I get it to reset and will list if anything special was required. I am almost wondering if my "button 1" is not making contact correctly.

*PARAGRAPHS REMOVED DUE TO INACCURATE INFORMATION*

Something else I noticed, and I am sure others have as well. If you push and hold button one while the key is on, and wait until the miles stop flashing and continue to hold while turning the key to the off position, a set of numbers will appear. Mine has "32" in the trip section and "20 10" in the odometer section. Anyone know what this is? I assume engine size and... year? Or possible "service due" date? Week 32 of 2010 maybe? Not really important, but I am just curious.

Thanks,
Ryan

Just an update. I spent most of the day trying to reset, I can get a chime - but I am pretty certain it is an "error" chime as I am pushing the button twice after the 4 second mark (that was on purpose as a "just in case"). I have followed all the advice on this forum and the SLK forums, let the car go to sleep, cussed it, pleaded with it, doors open/closed, hood open/closed, parking brake on/off, seat belt fastened/unfastened and prayed to the Chrysler and Mercedes gods - all to no avail. Apparently I just do NOT have the touch.

Somewhere on here someone suggested chugging a beer for every failed attempt. That will be my next step and when I wake up in the morning I will find out if I succeeded or failed. ;-)

Just a side thought, has anyone with a 2007 or 2008 done this reset successfully? This wouldn't be the first time I found the owner's and service manual inaccurate for a certain year vehicle... Just a thought.

Last post (honest) - only three beers in, but still no go. I noticed one of the "Service B" items is tire pressure. I disabled my TPMS sensor via the sticky (change the wiring under the dome light). Could the TMPS show a fault and so the FSS will not allow it to reset?

I re-read the thread where JesseJamesSRT6 was having the exact same problem. So I am going to go slow down my 2X button push and see if that helps. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever done. The plugs and wires were easier than this.

I gave up too. I just write down EVERYTHING I do on the car with the date and miles.
It drove me crazy ! Even with help from my wife.

Yeah, I finally gave up. I document everything as well, so I am not concerned about actually using it as a reminder - I just didn't like it flashing at me every time I started the car. I guess this qualifies as a serious first world problem, car runs perfectly and I complain about a flashing 10 second odometer gauge. ;-)

I used the service manual procedure with mine being a year past due and it reset. (schedule b with clock) So I don't think there is a non resettable threashold.
I held step 4 until it beeps, then release. Make sure you turn the key all the way to the 'on' position and not just 'acc' position (dash will light up like Christmas tree/ fans will run in full on) One thread poster reported getting '-49000' displayed with reset on 'acc'.

"Perform the following to reset the counter:
1. Turn the ignition key to the ON/RUN position.
2. Within one second press the ****/button to the left of the display twice.
3. The present status for days remaining or distance traveled is displayed. Within ten seconds turn the key to
OFF.
4. Press and hold the ****/button to the left of the display, while turning the key to ON/RUN again. The present
status for days remaining or distance traveled is displayed once more. Continue to hold the ****/button to the left
of the display.
5. Release the ****/button to the left of the display. After approximately ten seconds, a tone sounds and the
display shows 7,000 miles (11,000 km) for approximately ten seconds."
