Default Mopar Coupon 4 Oil Changes $180

Anyone else receive this Chrysler folder "Show you ride some love" promo in the mail ?

Inside it has a card with my Crossfire VIN and "4 Synthetic Oil Changes for $180.00" and my local dealer's contact.

Of course on the back it also says "up to five quarts" which is abby-surd. The dealer is checking into it but is very clear with my whole VIN on the front and the back says "Chrysler Group LLC vehicles only" but no Crossfire exclusion.

Just wondering if anyone else received one ?

Received the same flyer in my mail last year. However, the stealership down the street confirmed that I would have to pay for the additional 4 quarts at nearly $10 a quart. They wouldnt allow me to BYOB because that would void their warranty.Eventually the 4 month "cupin" (in my Ron White voice) would run me about $340 for 4 oil changes. Not a bargain! I take my Crossie to my "preferred car doctor". He charges me $70. Includes taxes, labor and new MANN filter. And I have the satisfaction that its done right and not by some noob whose never seen the car before.

Interesting thing is that it has my VIN on it. Even with 3 extra quarts at $10 would be $89 and less than I can get around here.

OTOH since no warrenty or service contract, I was just going to pick up two jugs of a quality synthetic and DIY with a MANN HU715X filter.

Am more curious what the dealer comes back with.

ps just noticed that the four changes must be in 24 months so would not work for me. Was another coupon for one change for $49.95. We shall see.

I would be curious to hear what the dealer says myself.

Just received the dealer response (asked about the one time for $49.95 sice the 4 coupon is only good for 24 months).

YOUR COUPON IS BASED ON 5 QTS , EACH ADDITIONAL QT IS $7.00
SO THE COST OF YOUR OIL CHANGE WOULD BE $69.95 PLUS SHOP AND DISPOSAL FEES AS NOTED ON YOUR COUPON .

Now how $49.95 + $21 = $69.95 and "shop fees" are probably $10 ($9.10 last time Ihad it changed) but still sounds like a good deal.

Now will need to see what happens when I go in...

This is the basically the same deal that was sold about a year ago. However we were told by the rep that is covered the entire oil change. And when people bought it and took it to the dealerships a few were covered but most were only covered "Up to $50.00 per service". READ THE FINE PRINT!

Nope, just a "additional charges may apply" which is why I have asked the SM to give me an "out the door" price. Even at $75 that is comperable with tire kingdom (and I do not know what filter they use) and DIY & for two jugs of Mobil 1 plus the Mann filter would be over $70. True, I would have two quarts extra but in a year mine has used no oil.

As they say 'if it sounds too good to be true it usually is'.
They also say 'do not look at gift horse in the mouth'.
I'm not sure who they are exactly but they are often correct in what they say.
Stealerships are not known for being good Samaritans they are better known for being highway robbers.

Well I have always found that it helps to have friends in low places. Occasionaly a promo will be cost effective. I'll just need the bottom line to see if this is but one of the advantages of having the oil changed by the dealer is that it goes into the service history.

Doesn't matter so much for the Crossie since far out of any warrenty.

I really do not understand all of this special service just because they are M-B chassis, still think they make the world's best taxicab but a 240D had the filthiest engine I ever worked on.

Why oh why would you let a dealer lay their hands on your car when doing the oil change yourself is probably the easiest maint. you can do all by youself. I much rather prefer the peace of mind knowing that the job is done right and with the correct oil and filter. I DO NOT trust the dealers at all. Seen the wrong oil and paper filters used by them. Get yourself a Mityvac and change your oil without having to jackup the car or worry about what kind of oil the dealer is using or them stripping the drain plug. Procurred the 2 ea 5L oil and filter for less than $65. I use the engine flush every other oil change (once a year). I change my oil every 10k. Whole procedure takes around 45 minutes total. Oil analysis from every change has come back pristine with plenty left on the add-in package, but I change it anyway to keep the oil detergents fresh. The 05 N/A Limited has had 7 changes since I bought her w/ 30k. Now with 100k and not a single drop of oil burned or valve leaks and still with original spark plugs. My year round daily driver still purrs just like new.

Also, those of you who change you own oil, how do dispose of the used oil and particularly the used filter?

I use the empty plastic 20 lb Tidy Cat litter containers to transport my used oil. I happen to have the county roads and grounds complex at the end of my street and they have a large maint. facility for all the county heavy equip.vehicles. They allow me to dump all of my used oil and filters at their disposal tank. Usually every county has a solid waste management dept. that provides a central disposal facility for most non-business household hazardous waste at no cost.

Any Walmart with auto service will accept used oil, at least around here. For nermal cars I just use the five quart jug from the oil change before.

Most places that sell oil take back used oil (I doubt that convenience stores do).

Agree with all of that, just have had good luck with a specific dealer (Central Florida Chrysler Jeep - plug) and if you have a way to get past the list prices things are merely ex$pen$ive.

Yes, stealership is a good name for most just like my cats will steal some chicken off the table if I let them. It is their nature. But like anything else, building a good relationship up front (and getting an out-the-door price before you even go there) works for me. Besides they expect me to buy another car there someday.

They did a good job before and for $79 out the door I'd just as soon let them do it. YMMV.

Well, that was an intersting experience in more than one way: having some extra vacation I hied to the dealer for the special oil change.

Oil used was 9 quarts of Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5W-40 Full Synthetic Motor Oil (personally think that is Better for Florida than 0W-40). Has MB – Approval 229.5. So charged me $20 for 4 extra quarts. (Didn't know a Crossie held 9 quarts, maybe why touching the metal at the top of the fiber dip stick thingie.

Does the oil really drain back into the engine from the filter ? Just checked 10 seconds after shutdown and in the same place as an houlr later, suspect is a anti-drainback vave.

So the $49.95 oil change became $69.95 with 9 quarts of oil (is at the top of the fiber on the dipstick and became $85.17 out the door after $7.63 "shop fees" & $7.59 tax (they said there was a $39.01 "discount" and the tax was applied before the discount per Florida law.) Interesting but less than $2.

So we found out what the Chrysler $49.95 synthetic oil change special meant for a Crossie. Figure for $15 more than DIY I had someone else do it & am good with that. Even got a car wash.

Except you now have 1/2 quart too much oil in the engine.
It holds 8.5 quarts with a filter change, usually adding 8 quarts puts it close to full on the dipstick ( at least on mine, and I doubt yours is any different )

Well that is the way it has been for the last year, right at the top of the fiber marker. I make that about 1/2 quart over. No sign of foaming (if crank were hitting the oil level there would be).

ps I periodically chack the level (key on, press button, when oil can appears press twice) & always says OK.

pps "The best time to check the engine oil level is about 5 minutes after a fully warmed engine is shut off, or before starting the engine after it has sat overnight."
