More powerfully sounding muffler/noise?
More powerfully sounding muffler/noise?
I've owned the crossfire for a few years now, and my friends say it sounds cool, but after looking at videos of others who installed new mufflers/exhaust systems, how could I do that? I don't even know where to begin. And I don't want to begin before I even know what I'm doing! What would make the sound more powerful? A new muffler, or an entire exhaust system? And another thing, how would I install it? I've tried looking everywhere, and no one can just give me a straight answer! Do I screw on or slide and tighten or do I have to weld things on and off? I'm looking into a megan racing muffler but again, I don't know what I'm talking about so any advice would be helpful or information! Thanks!
Re: More powerfully sounding muffler/noise?
I installed the OBX Racing catback ( Borla copy ) by myself.
Jack rear up by placing jack under differential high enough to put jack stands on rear jack pads, remove jack.
The main difficulty is the 2 rubber hangers at the back. I found that by removing the 2 diffuser panels I could
gain better access. There is a rubber bumper thingey between the muffler and body, pull down on the muffler and remove it.
Now place the jack under the muffler and raise it to relieve tension on the donuts, spray some WD40 on them and pry off.
The cat back is attached to the forward pipe with 3 bolts through a flange. WD40 these real good and let soak a few minutes, then remove them.
Installation is the reverse of removal, when new unit is in place, don't tighten the flange bolts until you get the 2 tips level.

I had some nylon cord.. fed through the rubber mount.. elevated my butt and wrapped the cord around my waste .. That gave it enough stretch and freed up my hands to hold the muffler up and work the mount off the ear-tab. The price sux on a Magnaflow.. but they do sound good..

Maybe you should be looking into some 'waste' management ?
BTW, I was out your way once in my youth, a week at Tahlequah for the USPA Nationals back in 1974.
