Not all cops are bad
Not all cops are bad
Had a really interesting day!!!!! I was on my way to a car show when I was pulled over by a local gendarme. As he approached the car, I was getting my registration and license ready but he asked me to get out of the car. Then he asked if I knew that I was spewing fuel all over and suggested we move away from the car. Then the firetruck arrived!!!! As it turned out a trucker noticed that I was losing fuel and radioed the officer who then called for the ftruck and then waited for me to come by and pulled me over. Then he drove me to Autozone to see if I could borrow tools to do repair. Long story short, when I added the adjustable regulator, I used plastics ties but one of them broke and a fuel line drooped enough that when I hit bumps it would rub just a bit on the axle collar. It eventually wore through and I lost about 10 gals. of fuel in about 20 miles. As it turned out I called my brother who went to my house and picked up one of my jacks, a jack stand and a few tools and I repaired it in about 20 minutes so all is well but I missed the show. I will thank all those involved, the trucker if I can find out his name, the guys at Autozone who drove me back to the car and most of all, the officer. I could have been the main course at a BBQ, if not for these gentlemen. I hope next weeks' show goes better.
Re: Not all cops are bad
Wow.. you got lucky.. I've experienced a car going up in flames.. was not fun.. Wife's car evidently had a TSB for the fuel line.. Well it wound up rubbing against the access value for the AC lines.. She kept on complaining about smelling gas.. I went to her work to take a look at it(had a 5 month old at the time.. so didn't want her to drive it anymore then necessary). Anyways.. I popped the hood.. looked everything over.. all looked good.. so while the hood was open.. I reached into the car via the driver window and cranked her up.. I looked back to the engine, and started to see gas spewing, almost in a mist form... In the 2 seconds that I saw that and reached in to turn off the car.. it ignited..
Was very scary.. luckily a contract construction worker was walking by and saw it ignite.. He immediately ran for a garden hose(near by) and started to soak the engine bay.. I got to my car mechanic.. told him the story.. and he was like.. "You should have fanned the flames.. that way you could have gotten a new car.." I wound up keeping that PT Cruiser for another 4 years...

I get a bit peeved when people jump on everything I say without really comprehending what was actually stated. Maybe reading comprehension is not studied these days.
At times I think I'll quit this forum and erase all my comments entirely and please the numbskulls who cannot read.
Re: Not all cops are bad
Be my guest, I can read just fine. You don't seem to mind when you use you "wit" on other people but get all peeved when it is turned around.
180 that's like saying some old Canadians are cranky old bastards just because you seem to be at times.
There I fixed it for you, Happy?

Re: Not all cops are bad
yes, he stated he used plastic ties on the fuel filter install. I guess one broke. All that catalytic heat, definitely lucky it didn't ignite. Larry knows the ignition point of gasoline. I don't recall, but I would think the converters would be hot enough.
Dave, you like to push buttons, but sometimes you don't like what comes back at you. Maybe you should rethink your approach if you don't like the come back. I managed 35 yrs in law enforcement without any write ups or complaints. I even won 3 elections before they had enough of me... All cops shouldn't be thrown in one basket. There are good and bad in every profession. I am sure this is true in Canada. Having been forced into retirement, I'm not happy with the politics of it all, but it treated me well for a long time.

Re: Not all cops are bad
then why even make the comment to begin with. It was great both the truck driver and the officer took the time to track him down. Most of the time, neither would have happened. I have stopped people for a low tire, or gas cap left off. Most appreciated it, unless they happened to be toking on something....lol They are the ones who don't like cops....just sayin'

it is 475 to 536F but really all it would take is the right spark.

Yes, it was my CF and it was at the fuel pump. For all that went wrong, there was a lot that went right, I am lucky. Also, I enjoy 180s' wit, maybe a little acerbic at times but I understand his frustration with SOME of the forum members at times.the description "****" comes to mind. All in all though a great forum and usually excellent feedback on problems. Not to give all the credit to 180 though, there are a couple other members who have a sense of humor.
