PTE modified thermostat
PTE modified thermostat
Hello everyone,
I received a few PMs awhile back regarding PTE t-stats. I reached out to PTE via MBWorld, and he can do a production run of t-stats towards the end of this month (May 2009). Normal list is $140, but he would be able to cut that to $110 for a Group Buy.
As has been known/evident on MBWorld for quite a long time, Patrick (PTE) is a stand-up guy, and makes a high quality product. To my knowledge, these are reengineered t-stats set at 180*F, to aid our engines (especially the modded/overboosted ones) in running a bit cooler. I have one of these NIB right now, waiting to go into my C32 later this spring/summer.
I've asked PTE to create a username over here, and post up some additional information for your benefit. In the meantime, it might be helpful for him if a list is started to gauge the overall interest level in his product.
Thanks - hope this helps out for those of you who wished for additional info.

Re: PTE modified thermostat
Look forward to PTE joining the forum and discussing his product.
If he is replacing the OEM 195*F wax pellet in the thermostat with a 180*F pellet; and not just drilling some holes or wedging the thermostat valve partially open - then I'll be interested.
I think the climate in my area is such that the normal operating temperatures of my engine coolant is almost always going to be above 200* F.
A 180* thermostat would open up sooner and prolong the warm up-time to normal operating temps, but not reduce it.
Perhaps if you live in a cooler climate this will be a great mod - but in winter months, your cabin heat may be reduced.

Good Morning Jim:
The parts come in from Germany. I hand build these Thermostats in my small machine shop . Even though they are called 160* They actually bring the engine temp from 210*F / 100*C too about 180* F . The 160* one , which I don't build ,would set a CEL on cold nights. Thanks for your inquiry. , Patrick T. Eves

Re: PTE modified thermostat
For those that are interested, I made a 172 and 180 version using stant superstats elements.About $30 or so, details on a posting that I did...........
180 is as cold as you can go, in Northern Va I throw codes at 30 degrees because the engine does not reach normal settings and MB is watching out for me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Yawn. I do not have fan speed settings changed, to do so would possibly make that an issue at even higher temps.
180 degrees is good heat for the cabin, no issue here at 20 degrees, american cars had 180 for a long time, 190 +++ is for emissions only and not the power or heater reasons.
Enjoy, and some one will show my thread soon enough, for the simple up grade, Id get a spare tstat body and mod that so that you can change back when you want or sell or what ever if your in NDakota...............
How about that stock market today, hot damn makes my week................W DY

Re: PTE modified thermostat
im all for a cooler stat, we have been playing with the one out of our spare motor, it is stamped 87C which is 188.6F, are you saying yours is a 195 stat (90C)?
we see 198-202f on our car durring normal driving, i havent pulled that stat yet to check what that one is stamped, maybe the one from our spare motor is different?

I did find a 187* Thermostat at a online parts dealer for a C32. What car was your spare engine pulled from?
